The Office of Finance and Accounting of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia was created in March 1971 with the hiring of the first Comptroller, Before this time, the duties of the Comptroller's Office were performed by the College's Executive Director and Executive Secretary or Clerk. The title "Comptroller" became "Controller" by 1990. In 1991, the Controller's Office was renamed the Office of Finance and Accounting, and the Controller became the Director of Finance and Accounting. This is currently [2018] an active office.
The Office of Finance and Accounting is responsible for all accounting and financial record keeping, budget preparation, investments, human resources administration, systems management, and receipt and disbursal of all funds. The Director of Finance and Accounting is the staff liaison with the College's Committee on Audit and Committee on Finance.
The collection contains files maintained by the College of Physicians of Philadelphia's Office of Finance and Accounting and Office of the Treasurer concerning special funds, bequests, and estates, 1937 to 1987. The files include copies of wills, deeds of trust, and letters of intent; correspondence and memoranda; legal opinions; and accounts of executors and trustees and schedules of distribution
