Overview and metadata sections
The Women's Committee of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia was organized in 1971 by Mrs. Frank Elliott to promote the welfare of the College through volunteer activities, publicity, and financial support. As of 2005, it was still an active organization. The organization is not an official College committee but exists in an independent relation to the institution. The Women's Committee was accorded official recognition by College Council on October 26, 1971. Its officers were a president, president-elect, recording secretary, corresponding secretary, and treasurer; each served a two-year term and were a member of the Committee's Executive Board.
It seems the Women's Committee was made up mostly of Fellows' wives.
The Records of the Women's Committee span the years 1971 to 2005, and document the activities and membership of the Committee.
Minutes of Committee, dating from 1972 to 2005, meetings comprise the bulk of the collection, and give a general overview of the projects, events, and fundraising initiatives that the Women's Committee spearheaded or were involved with. Also included in the collection is a cashbook, listing expenses of the Committee for the years 1972 to 1990, and fundraising booklets, presumably sent to College Fellows. Newsletters, covering the years 1984 to 1994, give an informal summary of past and upcoming events, as well as projects funded by the Committee.
These records were discovered in a closet on the third floor during the first annual implementation of the College's records management policy in July 2017.
