Abstract:
This collection of papers contains documents from Judge A. Thomas Small's office between the years 1982 and 2009. Documents include correspondence, handwritten notes, research material, testimonies and drafted legislation. Small actively participated in the legislative process, and much of the collecion covers legislative issues such as the Marathon decision, the creation of Chapter 12 bankruptcy, the creation of Bankruptcy Appellate Panels, and the debate over Bankruptcy Administrators vs. Bankruptcy Trustees. Also included are papers documenting the long range planning process of the United States Judicial Conference and the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges.

Judge Joyce Bihary papers, 1999-2009 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Judge Bihary received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School in 1975. From 1987-2003, she served as a judge for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Northern District of Georgia. In 2003, Judge Bihary was sworn in as Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Northern District of Georgia. She served this position from 2003 until her retirement in May of 2012. The Judge Joyce Bihary Papers, 1999-2009, includes materials created, collected, and received by Judge Bihary from two periods of her career. First, materials from the 1999 Debtor Education Program in Atlanta, Georgia which contains information regarding American bankruptcy in the mid to late 1990's. Second, the collection includes information regarding the proposed mortgage "cramdown" legislation specifically referencing H.R. 1106 during 2008-2009. Abstract:
Randall J. Newsome attended Boston University for his Bachelor of Arts in 1972 and the University of Cincinnati College of Law for his Juris Doctor in 1975. With 28 years of experience serving as a settlement and bankruptcy judge, Judge Newsome is best known for his intelligent and pragmatic approach to resolving complex matters and he is frequently sought out as a national speaker on topics related to bankruptcy. Judge Newsome devoted much of his career handling local and national bankruptcy issues. Not only was Judge Newsome vocal about bankruptcy reform for consumers, but he was also actively involved with the ongoing legislative battles over bankruptcy reform, particularly during the ever changing Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) in the late 1990s. Deborah A. DeMott papers (Restatement (Third) of Agency), 1994-2007 and undated (inclusive)

Abstract:
Deborah A. DeMott completed her B.A. in 1970 from Swarthmore College and received her Juris Doctorate from New York University in 1973. DeMott spent her early years in DuBois, Pennsylvania. She served as articles editor of the New York University Law Review. DeMott began her professional career with a judicial clerkship in a federal court in New York City, and later practiced with a large law firm in that city, until she joined the Duke law faculty in 1975. In 1989, she received the Scholar/Teacher of the Year Award from Duke University. Professor DeMott served as the Reporter for the American Law Institute's Restatement (Third) of Agency, published in 2006. This collection includes materials such as correspondence, financial material, notes, printed materials, and council and preliminary drafts of the Restatement of the Law Third.

The University of Pennsylvania Law School was founded in 1850 as the law department of the University of Pennsylvania. The school has undergone several renovations and construction projects over the years. Judge Joe Lee papers, 1961-2012 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Judge Joe Lee papers, 1961-2012, consist of material from Lee's active involvement in bankruptcy organizations and legislation. Joe Lee received his law degree from the University of Kentucky in 1955. He served as counsel to the Congressional Labor Subcommittee for the U.S. House of Representatives before being appointed a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge on September 1, 1961. He was one of the longest serving bankruptcy judges in the nation and played a pivotal role in the enactment of the Bankruptcy Reform Act of 1978. The collection includes correspondence, minutes, and reports from the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, drafts of bills and correspondence regarding bankruptcy legislation, and Lee's writings on the history of bankruptcy law.
