Abstract:
The area of Plumstead Township (Bucks County, Pa.) was originally settled in the early 18th century by English Quakers, but soon grew into a diverse community. The township was officially established in 1725 and was initially an agrarian community, although many businesses and industries were eventually established due to the presence of a nearby highway. The Plumstead Historical Society local history collection, 1809-2014, consists of various primary and secondary-source materials donated to or collected by the Plumstead Historical Society relating to the history and residents of Plumstead Township.

Alice H. Ambler family papers, 1865-1925 (bulk) 1836-1979 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Alice H. Ambler (1889-1981) was an active community historian in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. She descended from prominent families in the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), including Mary Ambler, for whom the town of Ambler, Pennsylvania is named. Alice's mother was Annie Foulke Webster, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Jones) Webster. Alice's grandmother was Eliza Moore Ambler. The Alice H. Ambler family papers, 1836-1979 (bulk 1865-1925), consist of correspondence, essays and writings, ephemera, photographs, some published works, ledgers, a diary, an autograph book, and other family papers. The majority of the collection is correspondence relating to Alice H., Annie F. W., and Eliza M. Ambler.

Nancy Corson clippings scrapbooks, circa 1950-1990

Abstract:
Plymouth Meeting (in Plymouth and Whitemarsh Townships) in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, was settled during the late 17th century by English and Welsh Quaker and German immigrants. In 1686, the discovery of limestone drew more settlers to the area. Several railroad lines were constructed in the area during the 19th century, which encouraged a growth in industry. Plymouth and Whitemarsh grew significantly after World War II, especially during the latter decades of the 20th century after completion of the Blue Route (Interstate 476) with its major interchange in Plymouth Township. The Nancy Corson clippings scrapbooks, circa 1950-1990, consist of about three-dozen newspaper clippings scrapbooks compiled by local activist and member of Plymouth Monthly Meeting (of Quakers) Nancy Corson. Plymouth Meeting (in Plymouth and Whitemarsh Townships) in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, was settled during the late 17th century by English and Welsh Quaker and German immigrants. The Citizens' National Bank of Pottstown, Pennsylvania was organized in 1892. Later it became part of Philadelphia National Bank, which in turn became CoreStates Financial Corporation in 1983. The Philadelphia National Bank in Pottstown scrapbooks, 1892-1982, consists of 11 volumes. Most scrapbooks are comprised of clippings--published financial condition reports, advertisements, and a few news items--but one volume from the mid-20th century has photographs as well.

"Through China's Gateway" film and booklet series, 1947

In 1944, Kathryn Linden (1905-2000) was hired by Pearl S. Buck as Director of Audiovisual Education for the East and West Association, an organization founded by Buck and her husband dedicated to cultural exchange and understanding between Asia and the West. Linden selected films, directed film and lecture series, and created exhibitions for educational purposes, in addition to assisting with the production of the film series "Through China's Gateway". "Through China's Gateway" film and booklet series, 1947, consists of five filmstrips, five booklets, and a phonograph recording of "Through China's Gateway," an educational series written and narrated by Pearl S. Buck for the East and West Association and produced by Telefilm Corporation in association with the editors of Look Magazine in 1947.
