Overview and metadata sections
The Citizens' National Bank of Pottstown, Pennsylvania was organized in 1892. In 1928, it changed its name to The Citizens National Bank and Trust Company of Pottstown. Later it became part of Philadelphia National Bank. Philadelphia National Bank merged with National Central Financial in 1983 to become CoreStates Financial Corporation.
This collection consists of 11 scrapbooks dating from 1892 to 1982 that relate to the Philadelphia National Bank branch in Pottstown, first organized as the Citizens' National Bank of Pottstown. Most of the scrapbooks consist only of clippings: published financial condition reports, advertisements, and a few news items. One volume from the mid-20th century has photographs as well.
Summary descriptive information on this collection was compiled in 2011-2012 as part of a pilot project conducted by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to make better known and more accessible the largely hidden collections of small, primarily volunteer run repositories in the Philadelphia area. The Hidden Collections Initiative for Pennsylvania Small Archival Repositories (HCI-PSAR) was funded by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
This is a preliminary finding aid. No physical processing, rehousing, reorganizing, or folder listing was accomplished during the HCI-PSAR project.
In some cases, more detailed inventories or finding aids may be available on-site at the repository where this collection is held; please contact Pottstown Historical Society directly for more information.
