Abstract:: W. Aubrey Merrick (1885-1962), owner of W. Aubrey Merrick, Real Estate and Insurance, was a realtor in Newtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. His company succeeded the Merrick agency that he inherited from his father, John S. Merrick (1831-1907), and uncle, who were Newtown surveyors and conveyancers. The Merrick company records, 1831-1922, largely consist of bound volumes of property surveys, insurance records, survey maps, and surveying notebooks. The collection also includes Merrick family genealogy volumes and papers.

Richard N. Mansley manuscript, drawings, and research materials on Philadelphia, Newtown and New York Railroad, circa 1960-2013

Abstract:: The Philadelphia, Newtown and New York Railroad Company, originally incorporated as the Philadelphia and Montgomery County Railroad in 1860, was to provide service between Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Jersey City, New Jersey with easy access to New York. After the company failed, the railway was operated by the Reading Company and Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) until SEPTA terminated service in 1983. Richard N. Mansley manuscript, drawings, and research materials on Philadelphia, Newtown and New York Railroad, circa 1960-2013, covers the history of the railway line from its founding until 1984. The collection includes a typewritten manuscript, The Newtown Railroad Reel, as well as the materials Mansley created and compiled during his research. There are also over 200 scale drawings of the stations, shelters, structures, signs and signals of the railroad that Mansley created.

Abstract:: Newtown, the county seat of Bucks County from 1726 to 1813, is one of the most historic areas in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Although it is unknown when the first school in Newtown was established, public and private schools flourished during the 19th century. In 1946, as mandated by the Commonwealth, Newtown became part of the extensive Council Rock School District. The Newtown Historic Association collection on Newtown schools, 1764-2013 (bulk 1900-2013) consists of records of the School Board, including minute books, account books, and treasurer's records. There are also a significant number of photographs of buildings, activities, students, and graduating classes as well as a collection of photographs of most of the one room school houses in Bucks County.

Abstract:: Founded in 1810 by Isaac Pennock (1767-1824) in Coatesville (Chester Country, Pennsylvania), Lukens Steel Company became a huge force in the United States' iron and steel industry as a result of innovative methods and production. It was run for a time by the first female chief executive officer of an industrial company in the country, Rebecca Webb Pennock Lukens (1794-1854). In 1998, Lukens was purchased by Bethlehem Steel; as of 2013, under the ownership ArcelorMittal Steel, the Coatesville mill stands as the oldest continuously operating steel mill in the country. The Lukens Steel Company records, 1861-1998 (bulk, 1960-1998), consist of numerous materials that document the history of Lukens Steel Company, including administrative and employee records; research and development records, financial records, executive records, Lukens Store records, special formats, and company publications.

Phoenix Iron Company technical drawings, 1855-1985 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Established in 1790 and incorporated in 1855, the Phoenix "works" in Phoenixville (Chester County, Pa.) produced nails, railroad rails, Civil War cannons, weaponry for 20th century wars, and structural steel. Among its well known products were the Griffen Gun, 1861, and the Phoenix Column, 1862. It closed in 1987. The Phoenix Iron Company technical drawings, 1855-1985, are mostly of equipment used by the company, as well as items they produced and a few maps.

The Klaus Grutzka artwork and reference materials, 1939-2011, consist primarily of artworks by Grutzka, as well as photographs taken by him of finished works and of subjects for reference, diagrams and artworks by others collected by Grutzka for reference, and a very small amount of original documents such as correspondence about his works and newspaper clippings about him.

Trustees of Old Eagle School records, 1865-2000s (bulk 1920s-1990s)

Abstract:: Old Eagle School is an 18th-century schoolhouse located in the community of Strafford, Pennsylvania, part of Tredyffrin Township, Chester County. Initially, donated by Jacob Sharraden, a German Lutheran, for 'religious and educational purposes,' the land also includes burial grounds with the remains of Revolutionary War soldiers. In 1895, after a legal dispute between the local community and the Tredyffrin School District over ownership of the schoolhouse, the title to the property was granted to a local group of trustees. As of 2016, Old Eagle School continues to be overseen by a board of trustees, who are responsible for the upkeep of the school and grounds, and is largely used for community events. Lillian Rankin papers, circa 1960-2005

Abstract:: Lillian Bassett Rankin (nee Stringfellow) was born in 1913 and died in 2009. A graduate of Beaver College (now Arcadia University) and later a teacher there, Rankin lived most of her life in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. A large proportion of the Lillian Rankin papers, circa 1960-2005, consists of photographs and slides. The collection also contains a sizeable amount of her notebooks and writings, and a small amount of financial records, correspondence, and Beaver College/Arcadia University alumni ephemera.
