Abstract:: Samuel Whitaker Pennypacker (1843-1916) served as governor of Pennsylvania from 1903-1907. A prominent Philadelphia lawyer, judge, and president of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania from 1900 to 1916, Pennypacker also authored more than ninety books and publications. The Samuel W. Pennypacker family papers at Pennypacker Mills, 1821-1980, is a well documented collection that reflects the interests of Samuel W. Pennypacker, his term as governor of Pennsylvania, the construction of the State Capitol, Pennsylvania history, family history, and Pennsylvania German culture. Pennypacker's papers include more than 25,000 letters received by Pennypacker, copybooks containing more than 13,000 letters he wrote, his notes and writings on his family genealogy, and documents Samuel collected for autographs, including more than 300 deeds of eastern Pennsylvania dating from 1682 to 1915. 1st Regiment Infantry, Pennsylvania records, 1812-1970 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The First Regiment Infantry, Pennsylvania, or "The Dandy First," is considered by some to be the oldest continuously existing troop in the United States National Guard, and the only existing Pennsylvania unit that served in the Continental Army. The unit, which today is known as the 103rd Engineer Battalion, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, has fought in nearly every major American battle beginning with the Revolutionary War. The 1st Regiment Infantry, Pennsylvania records, 1812-1970, consist of about 100 record books of the regiment and its predecessor and successor units, as well as several photograph albums and scrapbooks.

Abstract:: Fort Washington, Pennsylvania (now a part of Upper Dublin Township and Whitemarsh Township) was settled in the 18th century by German immigrants and is known for its role in the Revolutionary War. The Historical Society of Fort Washington subject files, 1832-2010, are on topics of local interest, such as churches, schools, and businesses; monuments and historic sites; battles and wars; family genealogies and genealogical research aids; mills and farms; etc. Most of the collection consists of newspaper clippings and secondary histories, but there are some pamphlets, photographs, and scattered primary materials.

Historic Waynesborough collection, 1712-1990 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Wayne family purchased the land on which the home "Historic Waynesborough" still stands in 1724 and the family's descendants continued to own it until 1965. One of Waynesborough's residents was Major General Anthony Wayne, a Revolutionary War hero, who was also instrumental in the Northwest Indian War (1785–1795). The Historic Waynesborough collection, 1712-1990, consists largely of secondary-source materials, such as photocopies, but there is also a significant amount of primary documents. Materials pertain largely to various members of the Wayne family and include photographs, financial documents, correspondence, genealogical research, and various other documents.

Abstract:: Historic Yellow Springs is a non-profit organization in Chester County, Pennsylvania that preserves and promotes the history and arts of Yellow Springs village. The village was the site of 18th and 19th century spas; the first military hospital in North America, built during the Revolutionary War; an orphan school for children of Civil War Soldiers; the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA)'s Country School; Good News Productions, the film studio that created The Blob; and Chester Springs Studio, a vibrant arts center that merged with Historic Yellow Springs in 2007. The Historic Yellow Springs collection, 1823-2013, is a combination of original records and collected secondary-source materials about the several organizations that have occupied the village of Historic Yellow Springs over its long history from 1722 into the 21st century.

Abstract:: The Carpenter family papers include Brigadier General Louis Henry Carpenter's military papers and Civil War-era correspondence, as well as more than 200 years of correspondence, genealogical material, and other papers related to the Carpenter family of New Jersey. The Carpenter family was among the first settlers of the Philadelphia area and established several towns in Salem and Gloucester counties, New Jersey. They also had ties to numerous prominent families in the Philadelphia and Mid-Atlantic region during the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries. The collection offers insights into a variety of topics, including the Revolutionary War in the Philadelphia region; the early history of Haddon Township, N.J.; medicine in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries; and life as a Union soldier during the Civil War.

Abstract:: Edward Hand (1744-1802) was born in Ireland, came to America with the British Army in the 1760s, and served with the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. This collection of his papers includes three bound volumes and two boxes of papers that contain correspondence, accounts and other financial papers, commissions, and a copy of his Valley Forge orderly book from 1776. There is also a group of letters dated 1775 to 1785 that Hand wrote to his wife.

Abstract:: John Barry (1745-1803), often credited as the Father of the American Navy, served the Continental Navy and the United States Navy for seventeen years. He and his descendents, particularly his nephew Patrick Hayes and grand-nephew Patrick Barry Hayes, became prominent members of Philadelphia society, serving as seamen, merchants, businessmen and politicians. The Barry-Hayes papers are the business, political and personal papers of John Barry and of his family, especially Patrick Hayes and Patrick Barry Hayes. The collection includes correspondence, letterbooks, diaries, logbooks, legal and financial papers related to Barry’s career in the Navy, the business ventures of the Hayes, Keen and Somers families, and their personal lives.

Abstract:: John Dickinson (1732-1808), a Philadelphia lawyer and politician, was a major figure in colonial Delaware and Pennsylvania governments and during the early national period. He was an active presence and prolific writer during the American Revolution and early Republic from the passage of the Sugar Act (1764) until the Jefferson presidency (1801 to 1809). He also served in the military as colonel, private, and brigadier general. He married Mary Norris in 1770. John Dickinson died in Delaware in 1808. The John Dickinson papers contains incoming and outgoing correspondence; drafts and original manuscript documents from the revolutionary and early national government, Revolutionary War, Delaware and Pennsylvania government; land papers; legal papers; bills and receipts; collected essays, notes and commonplace books; and estate material.
