Abstract:: John M. George (1802-1887) was the son of Joseph and Alice Malin George. He was a birthright Quaker and member of Radnor Monthly Meeting. The George family came to Pennsylvania from Wales in 1708 and settled in Blockley Township, Pennsylvania. The George family papers include correspondence (1705-1864), other personal papers (1681-1887), business and financial accounts (1734-1887), and estate papers (1714-1883). Of particular note are the estate accounts of many family members and other individuals for whom John M. and Joseph W. George acted as conveyancers and administrators, including Joseph George (1773- 1846?), Jesse George (b. 1785), James Malin (d. ca 1859), John Malin Jr. (ca. 1778-1868?), and other members of the Malin family, Miller family, Price family and many others who lived in the Blockley area. Included are business correspondence concerning the printing house founded by Samuel Wood and his sons, correspondence from prominent Friends concerning work for social causes including abolition, freedmen, prisoners, First Day schools, and peace, and genealogical material, writings, and reminiscences by Mary S. Bunting Family Papers, 1739-1957 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Bunting family was a Pennsylvania Quaker family, closely associated with Darby, Pa., and Darby Monthly Meeting. The Bunting family had many branches descending from the ten children of Josiah and Sarah (Hunt) Bunting; Josiah Bunting (1734-1813) was a minister and elder of Darby Monthly Meeting. One of his sons, Josiah (1773-1863) married Sarah Sellers. His son, Joseph (1830-1890) married Elizabeth Spencer Miller (1833-1905), a descendent of the Miller and McIlvain families, also Pennsylvania Quakers. The collection contains business and estate papers, correspondence, and genealogical and related materials which descended in the family of Joseph and Elizabeth Spencer (Miller) Bunting. Of interest is a letter from Quaker minister, John Jackson (1809-1855) expressing his religious views.

Foulke Family Papers, ca. 1654-1999 (bulk ca. 1750-1860) (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Foulke family was a prominent Quaker family of Richland, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, descended from Edward (1651-1741) and Eleanor (Hugh) Foulke (d. 1733) who emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1698. Their descendents married into the Roberts, Mather, Morris, and other Quaker families and were active in Quaker and Bucks County affairs. The Foulke Family Papers contain correspondence, business and legal papers, surveys, genealogical notes, and memorabilia of the Foulke, Roberts, and Mather, and related families. Of particular interest is a letter from Reubens Peale to Jane Roberts concerning silhouettes and correspondence between Joseph Foulke and George Hatton, a cousin in Indiana, between Joseph Foulke and George Hatton, a cousin in Indiana, about the Hicksite controversy.

Elizabeth Pearsall Frazier Family Papers, 1769-1914 (bulk 1807-1848) (inclusive)

Abstract:: This small collection of Quaker family papers appears to have been collected and preserved by Elizabeth Pearsall Frazier (1869-1957) and her daughter, Elizabeth P. Frazier (b. 1902). They include family genealogy, some correspondence, manuscript writings, financial papers, two wills, and reference material. The Pearsall side and its allied families, especially Parrish, were Quakers of long standing. Prior to 1800 the Pearsalls were a New York family, but after that they intermarried with Philadelphia Friends and made their homes in the Philadelphia area. There were strong ties with Burlington, NJ, and some of its Quaker families, including the Dillwyns and their relations. The bulk of this collection dates between 1807 and 1848. Abstract:: The Quaker families of Jones and Cadbury were interrelated with many other Quaker families in the United States and England. This collection provides a rich source of genealogical and historical information, not only on the Jones and Cadbury families, and especially Mary Hoxie Jones (1904-2003) and Emma Cadbury Jr. (1875-1965), but also, significantly, on the Warder family, as well as the Bartram, Brown, Carter, Foulke, Kaighn, Lowry, Mennell, Pearsall, Shinn, and Shipley families.

Pemberton Manuscripts, 1756-1812 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The collection contains primarily family correspondence of the three Pemberton brothers -- Israel, James, and John, prominent members of the Society of Friends in Philadelphia who were exiled to Virginia during the Revolutionary War for their pacifism. It also includes a small number of correspondence from Edward Stabler and Alexander White, an account on the life of James Pemberton, and the will of his wife, Phebe Lewis Pemberton. Topics include the Pembertons' exile to Winchester, Va., with other Quakers during the Revolution as conscientious objectors, Quaker ministers, the disposition of the estate of Anthony Benezet, and Quaker concerns especially pacifism.

Lippincott Family Papers, 1752-2010 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Horace Mather Lippincott (1877-1967) was a Quaker editor and historian. The collection contains his speeches and writings on topics primarily concerning the Society of Friends and the history of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Of particular interest is the scrapbook he compiled in 1946 of papers and photographs of the 1913-1914 Joint Group which met weekly to study the Separation in the Society of Friends, along with other papers on the topic and on the first joint meeting of the two Philadelphia Yearly Meetings in 1946. The collection includes genealogical research by Horace Mather Lippincott and his brother George E. Lippincott, deeds, and some family papers.
