Overview and metadata sections
The Bunting family was a Pennsylvania Quaker family, closely associated with Darby, Pa. The Bunting family had many branches descending from the ten children of Josiah and Sarah (Hunt) Bunting; Josiah Bunting (1734-1813) was a minister and elder of Darby Monthly Meeting. One of his sons, Josiah (1773-1863) married Sarah Sellers. Another son, Joseph (1830-1890) married Elizabeth Spencer Miller (1833-1905), a descendent of the Miller and McIlvain families, also Pennsylvania Quakers.
The collection contains business and estate papers, correspondence, and genealogical and related materials which descended in the family of Joseph and Elizabeth Spencer (Miller) Bunting. Of interest is a letter from Quaker minister, John Jackson (1809-1855) expressing his religious views.
The collection is divided into six series:
- Bunting Family Personal Papers
- Bunting Family Business and Financial Papers
- Sellers Family
- Spencer and McIlvain Families
- Miller Family
- Miscellaneous Family Papers
Donor: Michael F. Klesh, 1997
The collection was given by the son of Caroline Bunting Klesh who inherited the papers.
The collection was received unprocessed and laminated. The papers were sorted into family groups in 2001 and a finding aid created. Pictures were transferred to FHL General Picture Collection.
