Abstract:
The collection contains miscellaneous manuscripts collected by Paul Rodebaugh. It includes: drafts of letters by an unknown author, 1844-1849, which express support for abolition and discuss contemporary U.S. politics; an anonymous Quaker journal of an 1817 trip from Philadelphia to Ohio; an undated journal of a sea and river journey from Philadelphia to Europe and then from Florida to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; and a small number of miscellaneous letters involving the Dilworth and Sharpless families.

Abstract:
This collection includes the journal of Ruth Anne Hillborn from 1864-1868. She relates events concerning the emancipation of enslaved people, the U. S. Civil War, and the Presidency of Abraham Lincoln. She also describes Lucretia Mott and her ministry. This collection also includes miscellaneous poetry, a facsimile letter to the Women's Aid Association of Philadelphia about efforts in freedman's relief, a letter from John Bailey on Quaker ministry, and extracts from an account of the death of George F. White.

Abstract:
Richard Price's letters to fellow Hicksite Quaker John Watson provide a rich account of the Hicksite-Orthodox Separation with references and comments on many of the personalities involved: Elias Hicks, William Wharton, Jonathan Evans, as well as visiting Quaker ministers including George Truman, Lucretia Mott, Ann Jones, Mary and Susan Cox, and Martha Smith. Price also wrote a detailed account of the Proceedings of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, 1848. The collection contains a small number of other correspondents including Benjamin Hanna who described the split in Ohio Yearly Meeting.

Abstract:
Contains family correspondence and some other papers of the extended Williams family, primarily from Esther and Benjamin Williams who were Philadelphia Quakers and from their nephew, Charles B. Williams, the son of Thomas Williams. Correspondents include Lippincotts, Warner, Roberts, and Dubre family members. Of special interest is a letter from Charles B. Williams, 1853, describing the vacationing habits of Philadelphians at mid-century. Also, a 1856 letter from Isaac Williams concerning the prevailing interest in spiritualism.

Abstract:
This collection contains family papers and correspondence of Enos and Hannah Sharpless including two copy books of the latter. The letters primarily concern family matters. Two documents of note are a letter from Johnson Knight concerning the Quaker testimony on slavery and a pass issued for an enslaved person bought by Enos Sharpless in order to be liberated.

Jenkins family papers, 1829-1854 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Papers of the Jabez Jenkins family of Pennsylvania, 1829-1849. Includes "On board the Packet Ship George Washington Capt. Holdrege Liverpool to New York 1833: Some Recollections of England &c." 1833, manuscript Recollections of travel in England and Scotland in 1833 by Jabez Jenkins. Jenkins stopped for a relatively short time in England, on his way home to Philadelphia from Canton. Observations were largely of architecture and industry in London, Birmingham, Staffordshire, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. His postscript reflects on the differences between Americans and the British. Also of interest is a manuscript entitled "Tea and the Chinese" detailed notes on the differences between varieties of Chinese tea and its preservation. The section of "Miscellaneous Remarks" is entered between two passages on tea, and includes observations on the government, education, class structure, and personal appearance of the Chinese. Grant family papers, 1813-1847 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Mary Lukens, a birthright member of Abington Monthly Meeting, acknowledged marrying out of unity in 1801 and remained a member of the Society of Friends. Her husband, William Grant (d. 1849) became a member of Abington Monthly Meeting in 1811, and in 1818 the couple requested membership for their four children: Gulielma, Lukens, Mary, and John M. Grant. Their daughter Jane L. Grant, was born 1817, a birthright member of Abington Monthly Meeting. The family affiliated with the Hicksite branch in the Separation.
