Rachel Wilson was a Quaker minister who made a religious visit to the British colonies in North America in 1768, and attended the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting in the fall of 1769, where she addressed John Woolman. The diary of Rachel Wilson's religious visit to New England and Charleston, South Carolina, from England. Entries describe her travels, Quaker families visited, and meetings attended.

The first half of the volume contains business correspondence concerning merchant's orders and the status of shipments. The second half of the volume contains personal correspondence, chiefly letters from Benjamin Swett to Mary Howell Swett, his wife. This commonplace book is attributed to an unknown member of the Hill family, and includes extracts of "Extraordinary Escape" and a copied letter from the Bishop of London to George the Third at his accession to the Throne. It also includes extracts on various topics, including hypochondriacs, dependents, despair, death, spring, learning, poets, fiction, friends, pride, ambition, religion, retirement, adversity, affectation, and war.

Amelia Mott Gummere (1859-1937) was a noted writer on Quaker subjects. She was editor of the Bulletin of the Friends Historical Association and President of the John Woolman Association.

Hoskins family letterbook, 1729-1864 (inclusive)

Abstract:
This collection is comprised of the single volume letterbook of the Hoskins family. The primary correspondents in the volume are members of the Hoskins family, though quite a number of the letters are directed to Benjamin H. Warder. Most of the letters were written in the 18th century, but some are from the 19th century. A number of them are religious in nature, while others deal with service in the ministry or visiting Friends, and some deal with states of health and mortality. The letters cover a broad range of topics, including, but not limited to Quakers and trade in Barbados, outbreaks of small pox, the opening of Native American schools, and the Orthodox-Hicksite separation. Some prominent letter writers include: Martha Allinson, George Dillwyn, Thomas Evans, Rebecca Jones, James Mott, Elizabeth Robson, Charity Rotch, John Warder, Nicholas Waln, and Daniel Wheeler.
