Entries include references to places visited, especially meetings in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island, as well as religious reflection and details about the difficulty of overland travel.

Amelia Mott Gummere (1859-1937) was a noted writer on Quaker subjects. She was editor of the Bulletin of the Friends Historical Association and President of the John Woolman Association.
