Wendell-Heilner negatives, 1870-1951 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Herman Wendell (born 1852), along with Walter Bassett Smith, was a general contractor and manager for developers Anthony J. Drexel and George W. Childs. In this capacity, the firm of Wendell and Smith played a significant role in the planning and development of the suburban community of Wayne, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Herman's son, Evert "Ted" Jansen Wendell (1884-1973), was next-door neighbor to Marcus "Mark" Edmund Heilner (born 1886). The Wendell-Heilner negatives, 1870-1951, depict scenes from Wayne, Radnor Township, and other nearby locations in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Images depict trains, buildings, landscapes, and people, especially the Wendell and Heilner families. The earlier negatives are glass plates, the later ones are film.

Tredyffrin Easttown Historical Society photograph collection, circa 1880-2000

Abstract:
Both Tredyffrin and Easttown townships in the Upper Main Line area of eastern Chester County, Pennsylvania were settled by Welsh Quakers in 1682; they were incorporated in 1707 and 1704, respectively. Predominantly farming communities for most of their histories, commercial and residential development in both townships accelerated with the construction of the "Main Line" Pennsylvania Railroad Line in the 1830s and burgeoned after World War II. The Tredyffrin Easttown Historical Society photograph collection, circa 1880-2000, is comprised of paper prints in black and white and color, as well as a significant number of glass plate negatives, film negatives, and slides. It includes seven small sub-collections of photographs arranged by creator/donor, 15 binders of additional photographs, and some oversized items.

Settled by Quakers beginning in 1680, the small town of Langhorne in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, grew as an important transportation center between Trenton and Philadelphia due to its location at the intersection of major roads connecting the two cities. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the town, which served as a stop along the rail line, became a popular summer vacation destination for wealthy Philadelphians. The Historic Langhorne Association photograph and photo postcard collection, circa 1867-2012 contains photographs, postcards, negatives, and oversized images that document the people, buildings, events, and streets of Langhorne, Bucks County, Pennsylvania and the surrounding area from the mid-19th century until the present.

Lincoln Cartledge (1868-1918) was a local photographer and historian active in the Frankford neighborhood of Northeast, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Cheltenham Police Department, established in 1903, is as of 2013 the third largest Police Department in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Cheltenham Police Department photographs, 1909-1922, consist of approximately 5,000 glass plate negatives, film negatives and a few prints, and contains official police department photographs of accident and crime scenes, mug shots, corpse and autopsy images, and fingerprints. Perkasie is located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania midway between Philadelphia and Allentown. The site of William Penn's 'Perkasie Manor,' the town was incorporated in 1879 and by the turn of the 20th century had become the third largest station on the North Penn railroad line. The Perkasie Historical Society photograph collection, circa 1880-2000, consists of various photographs of local people, events, buildings, organizations, and other subjects. Most of the photographs are original photographic prints; there are also some photocopies, glass plate negatives, slides, and oversized photographs.
