The World Without War Council-Midwest developed about 1970. It was affiliated with the World With War Council national office, but functioned independently in terms of programming and operations. The WWWC-Midwest worked with leaders of NGOs, business, labor, religious bodies, professional organizations, and education, for the nonviolent resolution of international conflict and constructive global change.

Topsfield Foundation Records, 1983-1997 (bulk)

Abstract:
The Topsfield Foundation was founded by Paul J.Aicher in 1982. Aicher, a former engineer later turned philanthropist created a Foundation to aid grassroots citizens' groups in working against nuclear proliferation. In 1984 the Foundation began publishing the state-by-state Grassroots Peace Directories to provide networking information for these organizations and the larger peace movement. In the mid-1980s Aicher created two additional projects: ACCESS, a security information service based in Washington, D.C., to further the exchange of information and viewpoints on international affairs and conflict transformation; and helped form OPTIONS to improve and deepen the debate over security policy and to increase public participation in policy formation. In the 1990s the Topsfield Foundation changed its focus to community dialogue and community building through grassroots organizations. In 2004 the Topsfield Foundation was renamed as the Paul J. World Conference on Religion and Peace, USA Records, 1962-1989 (inclusive)

Abstract:
In the early 1960s religious leaders, Rabbi Maurice Eisendrath and Dana McLean Greeley (Unitarian-Universalist) independently saw the need for national confernce on religion and peace. The organized the National Inter-religious Conference on Peace held March 15-17, 1966, in Washington, D.C., which brought together clergymen and laymen from all peace oriented viewpoints to discuss the relation of religion to peace. Minister and peace activist Homer A. Jack was also involved in organizing the group in the early years. In 1975 the group changed its name to World Conference on Religion and Peace (USA) to identify more clearly with World Conference on Religion and Peace (International).

Mildred Scott Olmsted Papers, 1881-1990 (inclusive) 1907-1990 (bulk)

Abstract:
Mildred Scott Olmsted, peace activist and suffragist, was born in Glenolden, Pennsylvania, in 1890. In 1922, Olmsted became Executive Secretary of the Pennsylvania Branch of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF). From 1934 onward she assumed national positions with the organization. In 1946, Olmsted became National Administrative Secretary and held that position (until her retirement in 1966. She remained active as Executive Director Emerita of WILPF and also served on its International Executive Committee from 1937 until 1953. Mildred Scott married Allen S. Olmsted, II, in 1921 and the couple had one child and adopted two more. Mildred Scott Olmsted died in 1990 at the age of 99.
