Abstract:: Albert Lamborn Green (1845-1947) was a Quaker Indian Agent for the Otoe Agency in Nebraska during the period of President Grant's "peace policy," 1869-1872. The bulk of the correspondence in this collection is comprised of letters written to Green from Philadelphia Friends in regard to gifts in support of Indian work. Later letters written by Green describe from memory the social life and customs of the Otoe Indians. The collection has information on the Otoe language, vocabulary, etc., and also correspondence in 1934-1935 with J. Russell Hayes giving an account from memory of life among the Otoes in the 1870s. Some drawings are included in the collection. Correspondents include William Dorsey, Thomas Garrigues, Benjamin Hallowell, J. Russell Hayes, Samuel M. Janney, Samuel Jeanes, Joseph Powell, John Saunders, George Smith, and Benjamin Stratton.

Brown, Samuel Jeanes, and Albert Lamborn Green. Reports include information about the Senecas, the Otos and the Otoe Agency, the Santees and the Santee Agency, the Great Nemaha Agency, the Sauks, and the Fox .

Abstract:: Consists of two disbound photograph albums containing 1,025 mounted albumen photographs of North American Indians, including portraits of delegates to Washington, D.C.; expedition photographs; and early Western studio portraits by American photographers. Most of the photographs in the albums are described in William Henry Jackson's Descriptive Catalogue of the Photographs of North American Indians (1877). This collection is included in the Princeton University Digital Library.

Abstract:: Consists of a closed collection of more than 5,000 Western Americana photographs, consisting mostly of documentary photographs of the Trans-Mississippi West from the late 1860s to early 1900s, largely from the perspective of white photographers and settlers. Subjects include American Indians (especially studio portraits), natural wonders, cities, towns, buildings, and economic activities (mining, railroads, logging, and agriculture). Some photographs relate to the Indigenous populations of Mexico and Central America. The dimensions, physical formats, and photographic processes of the photographs vary widely.

Abstract:: Sheldon Jackson was a Presbyterian missionary in the Western United States in the 19th century. This collection consists of three portfolios with 576 photographic prints and 5 photomechanical photogravures of Native Americans and related subjects compiled by Jackson, possibly from negatives in the collections of the Bureau of American Ethnology and by ordering prints from various photographic trade catalogs.
