Abstract:: This collection contains materials documenting the development of nursing and nurse alumni groups at institutions founded by Jewish benevolent groups and organizations in Philadelphia from the 1890s through the 1990s. The historical material includes minutes, reports, administrative files, artifacts, and photographs depicting nursing and nurse education. These materials primarily concern three establishments which were merged to form the Albert Einstein Medical Center in 1952: the Jewish Hospital, established 1867; the Mt. Sinai Hospital, established in 1905; and the Northern Liberties Hospital established in 1920. (It should be noted that there are no significant records of the Northern Liberties Hospital in this collection.)

Abstract:: Doris Schwartz was a nurse educator remembered for her work at Cornell University and Cornell Medical College, as well as her contributions to the University of Pennsylvania's Gerontology Nursing Program. This collection of publications, grants, reports, and personal materials documents Schwartz's scholarly career and her work with many professional nursing organizations. Also included is a series of audio and video tapes containing autobiographical interviews.

Abstract:: Lillian S. Brunner, author and educator, is a native Pennsylvanian who is known nationally and internationally for her contributions to nursing practice, particularly in the area of medical surgical nursing. She is perhaps best known for writing Textbook of Medical and Surgical Nursing and The Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice. This collection documents Brunner's professional nursing and writing experience and her association and membership with various institutions she attended or served. Also included are her articles, awards and photographs.

This collection contains reports of her involvement in national and state-level activities, including the American Medical Association, National Commission for the Study of Nursing and Nursing Education, Nation's Health, and the American Nurses Association, as well as some of her correspondence and personal papers.
