American Women's Hospitals Service photographs, 1917-1982 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The American Women's Hospitals (AWH) developed from the War Service Committee of the Medical Women's National Association (later called the American Medical Women's Association) in 1917, to provide, register and finance American women physicians for war work; to offer medical and emergency relief to refugees; and, later, to provide international public health service. In 1959, AWH became an independent agency and remained such until 1982 when it re-merged with the American Medical Women's Association. The collection houses photographs created by the American Women's Hospitals Service (AWHS) from 1917 to 1982 to document and promote the organization's efforts to provide health care to under-serviced populations in the United States and abroad. The photographs were frequently used in fundraising and publicity campaigns. West Philadelphia Hospital for Women records, 1899-1932 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Founded by Dr. Elizabeth Comly-Howell in 1889, the West Philadelphia Hospital for Women was established in order to provide a place in West Philadelphia where women could be treated by women. In 1929, the hospital merged with the Woman's Hospital of Philadelphia. At the time of the merger, it was arranged that all maternity cases would be sent to the West Philadelphia Hospital, and surgical cases would be kept at the Woman's Hospital of Philadelphia. The Woman's Hospital of Philadelphia continued in existence until 1964 when it was absorbed by the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The collection contains Board of Manager records, Executive Committee records and historical materials.

Village Improvement Association of Doylestown records, 1895-2014 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Village Improvement Association (VIA) was founded in 1895 by a group of women in Doylestown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, with the goal of improving and beautifying Central Bucks County. The VIA founded Doylestown Hospital in 1923 and is the only women's club to own and operate a community hospital. As of 2015, the VIA is headquartered at the James-Lorah Memorial Home, has a membership of over 350 women, and continues to undertake projects relating to health, welfare, community improvement, education, and the arts in Bucks County. The Village Improvement Association of Doylestown records, 1895-2014, consist of administrative records, scrapbooks, membership materials, photographs, audiovisual materials, blueprints, newsletters, ephemera, and other materials relating to the Village Improvement Association of Doylestown. There is also a small amount of materials from the Junior Women's Club of Doylestown.

Abstract:
The Committee on the Celebration at the Philadelphia General Hospital of the 200th Anniversary of the Building of the Philadelphia Almshouse was established in September 1929. The committee, consisting of five members of the Medical Board of the Philadelphia General Hospital, was appointed by the President of the Medical Board. The committee was responsible for fund raising, promotion, planning the program, selecting speakers, and making out the guest list. The bicentennial celebration was initially planned for December 1931. In August 1931, due to lack of funds, the committee decided to postpone the celebration until the following year. The bicentennial was finally celebrated on 6 December 1932. The records of the Committee on the Celebration at the Philadelphia General Hospital of the 200th Anniversary of the Building of the Philadelphia Almshouse span 1929 to 1939; most of the records date from 1931 to 1932. Frankford Hospital records, circa 1918-1990s

Abstract:
Frankford Hospital was chartered in 1903 by doctors Joseph Ball and Charles P. Brady to serve as a community hospital in the Frankford area of Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The hospital grew quickly, expanding to meet the needs of neighborhoods in Northeast Philadelphia through the additions of a maternity wing, a modern emergency room, expanded laboratory facilities, and two additional locations in Torresdale and Bucks County. In 2009, Frankford Hospital changed its name to Aria Health to better reflect its expanded, regional services in Northeast Philadelphia and Bucks County. As of 2015, Aria Health is the largest healthcare provider in Northeast Philadelphia and Lower Bucks County. The Frankford Hospital records, circa 1918-1990s, consist primarily of photographs, but also contain letters and memos, annual reports, and various other materials relating to Frankford Hospital.

Diagnostic Hospital of Philadelphia Records, 1861-1920 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Charity Hospital was first incorporated in 1861, with the goal of providing medical assistance to the industrial and manufacturing workers of Philadelphia. In 1920 the Board of Trustees petitioned the state to amend the Hospital's Chart by changing the name to Diagnostic Hospital. The Diagnostic Hospital Records detail the administrative and financial aspects of Charity Hospital in the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth Centuries.

Medico-Chirurgical College and Hospital of Philadelphia Records, 1881-1955 (inclusive) 1881-1922 (bulk)

Abstract:
The Medico-Chirurgical College had its origins in 1848 as the Medico-Chirurgical Society, but it would not be until 1881 that Dr. George P. Oliver, who had been a member of the old society and held title to the new charter, organized a faculty to hold classes. In 1916 Medico-Chirurgical College's Department of Medicine and the Department of Dentistry merged with the University of Pennsylvania. The Medico-Chirurgical College and Hospital of Philadelphia Records consist mainly of administrative and financial records for the College and Hospital from the late nineteenth through to it's merger with the University of Pennsylvania in 1916.

Grand View Hospital Auxiliary collection, circa 1913-2013

Abstract:
Grand View Hospital in Sellersville was the first hospital in Bucks County, Pennsylvania upon its founding in 1913. Two years later it opened a Nurse's Training School, the only one in Bucks County. The hospital is still in operation as of 2014. The Grand View Hospital Auxiliary collection, circa 1913-2013, includes a large quantity of scrapbooks and publications and ephemera, as well as some photographs and a small amount of correspondence and other documents.
