The collection relates primarily to William Huntington, (1907-1990), a 20th century Quaker peace activist and the ship The Golden Rule which Huntington and others used to protest atomic testing in the South Pacific. Abstract:
Albert S. Bigelow (1906-1993) was an artist, architect, former Navy commander, and Quaker. He served as captain of Golden Rule, a thirty foot ketch which he and colleagues attempted to sail into the Eniwetok Proving Grounds, the U.S. nuclear test site in the Marshall Islands of the Pacific in February 1958. The action was sponsored by the Committee for Non-Violent Action Against Nuclear Weapons.

Abstract:
The War Resisters League is a pacifist organization whose members are against all war. Witnessing the establishment of the War Resisters' International in Europe in 1921, and sensing a need for a similar organization in the United States, Dr. Jessie Wallace Hughan established the War Resisters League as an independent organization. The War Resisters League membership pledge, which has remained essentially unchanged since its inception, reads: "The War Resisters League affirms that war is a crime against humanity. We therefore are determined not to support any kind of war, international or civil, and to strive non-violently for the removal of all causes of war." The League seeks to end war and social injustice through pacifist and nonviolent tactics.

Cora Weiss Papers, 1960- (bulk)

Abstract:
Cora Weiss is a peace and social justice leader and activist. She is a supporter of the United Nations, an early member of Women Strike for Peace, a leader in the anti-Vietnam war movement in the United States. In the 1970s Weiss was the director of the Riverside Church (New York, NY) Disarmament Program. Weiss was also active with SANE, SANE/Freeze, Peace Action, and The Hague Appeal for Peace. Weiss became president of the International Peace Bureau in 2000. She has always been active in women's peace issues, hosting the first women's radio program in New York City in the 1970s, attending women's disarmament summits in the former Soveit Union, the U.N. Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, and many other events. Weiss is the recipient of numerous peace awards from all over the world.

Abstract:
The pamphlets of the Atomic Age Collection, which date from 1945 to the late 1990s, address atomic weapons and defense in the nuclear age. Topics range from first impressions of the effects of the Atomic Bomb at the end of World War II to anti-nuclear waste activism in the late 1990s. This collection consists of pamphlets arranged by creator, such as the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) and related groups, the Committee of 100, European Nuclear Disarmament (END), and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI); there are also a large number of pamphlets by various creators arranged chronologically in the collection's "Miscellaneous" section.

Abstract:
Grassroots activism for peace and disarmament in the 1960s and 1970s was powerful and widespread. The Collection of Philadelphia peace materials offers an assortment of newsletters, informational and event flyers, donation requests, and correspondence from 1961 to 1977. Activist organizations included are from in and around Philadelphia--the Brandywine Alternative Fund, SANE Nuclear Policy, Philadelphia's chapter of the Student Peace Union (SPU), the N.Y.C. People's Life Fund, and miscellaneous letters on the peace movement and donations. All organizations advocate against war and military spending, and instead promote resistance and peaceful action.

Abstract:
Katherine Lindsley Camp was born in 1918 [1919?], Mt. Kisco New York. She was a graduate of Swarthmore College (Class of 1940). Camp was elected president of the U.S. Section of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom in 1967, and served as international president, 1974-1980. In addition Camp was founder of the Citizens Bi-Racial Study Group; former president of the Pennsylvania Women's Political Caucus; made unsuccessful bid for Congress in 1972 on the Democratic ticket in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania; member of the Society of Friends. Her papers include biographical information, personal correspondence, and involvement with numerous peace groups, as well as political activities.
