Abstract:
In 1986 six hundred people marched across the United States to demonstrate their opposition to the world-wide nuclear arms race. The march took nine months from California to Washington, D.C. The marchers wrote: "we will create a non-violent focus for positive change; the imperative being that nuclear weapons are politically, socially, economically and morally unjustifiable, and that, in any number, they are unacceptable." The GPM was also a traveling intentional and communal society.

American Peace Test Records, 1985-1994 (bulk)

Abstract:
In 1985 six members of the National FREEZE Campaign founded American Peace Test as a direct, non violent action campaign to protest the testing of nuclear weapons at the Nevada Test Site, near Las Vegas, Nevada. The first large scale action took place in 1986, drawing large crowds of protesters. Protests throughout the 1980s continued to draw larger numbers of protesters and the support of some nationally known celebrities and politicians. In the early 1990s American Peace Test regrouped, but eventually the organization foundered. Protests at the Nevada Test Site continued through the 1990s, sometimes sponsored by other organizations and groups of protesters.

Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) was formed when representatives of various Mennonite conferences met July 27-28, 1920, in Elkhart (Indiana), and pledged to aid hungry people, including Mennonites, in Russia and Ukraine.Since then thousands have served with MCC worldwide on relief, peace and development projects.

Founded in 1958 in New York City as a trust fund exclusively for religious, charitable, and educational purposes. On December 20, 1990 the Foundation was reorganized and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to provide fiscal sponsorship to the Scholarship Project of Training for Change, a Philadelphia-based social change training center.

Steve Trimm Papers, 1963-2008 (bulk)

Abstract:
In 1968 Steven Wayne Trimm was convicted for refusing induction into the armed services and served four years prison. Trimm fled to Canada in 1969 where he lived underground until 1974. Two years later he received clemency from the U.S. government under the Earned Re-entry Program and was pardoned. Steve Trimm is the author of Walking Wounded: Men's Lives During and Since the Vietnam War (1993) and other publications. Since the 1970s Steve Trimm has also been active with various peace and anti-war organizations, including Witness for Peace.

Edward F. Snyder Papers, 1950- (bulk)

Abstract:
Edward Furnas Snyder is a Quaker lobbyist for peace, civil rights, and economic justice. He joined staff of Friends Committee on National Legislation in 1955 and retired in 1990 as Executive Secretary of the FCNL Snyder argued against legislation for a U.S. military draft and excessive military spending; worked for cultural and scientific exchanges between Soviet and U.S. citizens to lessen tensions of the Cold War. Edward and Dorothy Snyder have long been tax resisters arguing that the government was using taxpayers' money illegally to fund war in Vietnam, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.

Delaware Draft Counseling and Education Service, Inc. Records, 1966-1991 (bulk)

Abstract:
The Delaware Draft Counseling and Educational Service (DDCES), was organized in early 1969 with offices in Wilmington and Newark, Delaware. It provided men who had been drafted by the Selective Service System with information about the draft and their options within that system. The DDCES also provided information on the draft, individual rights under Selective Service laws and how to file for deferments and alternatives to the draft. With the end of the draft and beginning of registration in 1980, DDCES provided education, counseling, and services on how to establish conscientious objection status. DDCES staff co-operated with other local and Philadelphia-area peace organizations such as CCCO, the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, and Pacem in Terris. The organization ended some time in the mid to late 1980s.
