Rosalie Regen family photographs, 1934-1993 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Rosalie Stork Regen (1909-1993) was a Quaker author and playwright who joined the Rahway and Plainfield Monthly Meeting in 1941. She was the daughter of Charles Wharton Stork and Elisabeth von Pausinger Stork. An active member of the Society of Friends, Rosalie taught First Day School and visited Quakers all over the world. The collection includes journals kept continuously from 1936 to the time of her death in 1993. She also maintained a prodigious correspondence with family and friends. This collection contains an album of the Regens' travel as well as various family photographs, both in black and white and in color.

Larry Scott Butler Papers, 1965-2015 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Larry Scott Butler is a Quaker activist who was involved in civil rights work in Alabama in 1965 and was a leader in the gay rights movement in the 1970s and 1980s. The collection contains correspondence, photographs, and the diary he kept while participating in the SCOPE project, Barbour County, Alabama, which was sponsored by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. The collection includes minutes and remarks on the early history of the Committee on Homosexuality of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and biographical material.

Swarthmore College Penguin Club records, 1920-1989 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Penguin Club, previously known as the Campus Club and before that the Faculty Club, served as the primary social organization for Swarthmore faculty and their spouses from around 1920 until 1989. The Penguin Club records, 1920-1989, include minutes of the Penguin Club and predecessor organization (including some Men's and Women's minutes), 1920s-1980s; faculty-staff drama production materials, such as programs, scripts, planning materials, and flyers, 1960s-1989; files on other activities of the Campus Club, such as museum tours, potlucks, and picnics; and materials on "The Kovalenko," an annual dinner dance for faculty. Also stored with this collection is one slim volume of records of Jocoseria, a faculty club for Robert Browning enthusiasts (1898-1899), call number RG6/L4-B.

Eugene M. Lang papers, 1919-2012 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Eugene M. Lang (1919-2017) was an American businessman and philanthropist, known for founding an innovative intellectual property firm and for his support of higher education. A 1938 graduate of Swarthmore College, Lang served on the Board of Managers for decades and was one of its most generous donors. This collection consists primarily of letters between Eugene M. Lang and his wife Theresa, from 1944 (shortly before their marriage) into the 1960s, while Eugene was travelling extensively internationally for business; as well as the text of speeches given by Eugene Lang from 1970 into the early 2010s. There are also a large number of letters between Eugene and his parents while he was a student at Swarthmore College, 1934-1938, and coursework from Swarthmore classes. The collection contains some additional correspondence and a small amount of other material, including drawings by Eugene, newspaper clippings, a few photographs, and other documents. There are also 6 reels of 8-mm film.

Julia Rouse Sharpless Diaries, 1925-2000 with gaps (inclusive)

Abstract:: The collection contains personal diaries of Julia M. Rouse Sharpless (1911-2004), a Quaker who attended Friends Boarding School in Barnesville, Ohio, and then Strayer Business College in Washington, DC. A member of the "Eye" Street Meeting, she was active in the cooperative Friends Meeting of Washington and worked in government offices until her retirement in 1969. The diaries and daybooks (with gaps) reflect her schooling and personal life, especially the years before her marriage in 1932 to Wiliam R. Sharpless (1910-2000).
