Abstract:
Fleming was appointed as Scientific Director of MASCA starting in 1978. Under his direction MASCA broadened its analytical techniques from a focus on Carbon 14 dating, to the inclusion of many other specialized scientific approaches to answering anthropological/archaeological questions, including other dating techniques such as Thermoluminescence and materials analysis techniques such as Proton Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE).

Tikal Project, 1948-2008 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The planning for the Tikal Project began in the mid 1940s when Museum President Percy C. Madeira along with engineer John Dimick and Board member Samuel B. Eckert conceived of a ten year long expedition to the Maya site in the dense forest region of Guatemala. Previous expeditions to investigate the Maya necessarily focused on more accessible sites such as Piedras Negras, Copan, Uxmal and Chichen Itza. Following the construction of a landing strip by the Guatemalan Air Force in 1950 the first scientists arrived in January 1956 for what would turn out to be a thirteen year expedition. For ten of the thirteen years, the project was directed by William Robertson Coe who accomplished major excavations in the Great Plaza, North Terrace and Acropolis sections of the project. Coe also conceptualized the data collection system and reporting guidelines that resulted in the publication of the seventeen volume Tikal Reports. The William H. Davenport collection includes records from field research in the Santa Cruz Islands, Guadalcanal and San Cristobal Islands, and other Solomon Islands; the Moluccas and Sulawesi in Indonesia; and Sarawak in Malaysia, among other locations. Materials span the period from 1952-2002 and contain records primarily related to Davenport's field research, professional activities, student mentoring, and articles and publications.

This collection contains architectural drawings, project and office records, and photographic material related to the work of architects and professional partners, Paul M. Cope, Jr. and H. Mather Lippincott. Projects with the most extensive holdings include the NYU Art Conservation Center, Friends Neighborhood Guild House (1961-1965), Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Friends Center Complex (1971-1979), and the Fred W. Noyes Foundation Museum (1979-1981). Collaborations with Robert Venturi are indicated within the container list.

Abstract:
Originally established in 1950 as the National Society for the Study of Communication, the International Communication Association (ICA) has grown to be the largest worldwide academic organization devoted to the systematic study of communication. The collection is composed primarily of administrative records created and/or collected by various officers from 1946 to 2016, and serves to document the association's development over the years. Materials include correspondence, board meeting minutes and reports, bylaws and constitutions, conference proceedings, division records, financial records, membership records, and publication records.

National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges Oral History Project, 2004-2008 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Oral History Project was begun by the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ) at its 2004 Annual Meeting. The purpose of the project was to record interviews in which past presidents of the NCBJ reminisced about the organization and the role they played in it. The project later expanded to encompass oral histories of prominent bankruptcy judges. The collection chiefly includes oral histories recorded with past presidents of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges. Accruals to this project include prominent members of the NCBJ who may or may not be former presidents.

Abstract:
Henry J. Sommer is one of the leading figures in bankruptcy and consumer law. Born in 1949 in Rochester, New York, Sommer received his JD cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1974. After graduating from Harvard, he worked for Community Legal Services in Philadelphia as Project Head of its Consumer Law Project until 1996. In addition to his role with Community Legal Services, Sommer has served on bankruptcy rules committees and worked as editor-in-chief of Collier on Bankruptcy. The Henry J. Sommer Papers, 1966-2014, include National Bankruptcy Conference papers, materials from Continuing Legal Education seminars and other meetings at which Sommer lectured, copies of published manuscripts written by Sommer, and other material related to Sommer's work with consumer law and legal reform.

Abstract:
Harry Dixon Jr. (1944-2006), a lawyer from Nebraska, wanted to form an organization with the dual purpose of providing Congress with unbiased views on legislation and creating an institution that could keep the bankruptcy community aware of legislative activities affecting them. In February 1982, Dixon incorporated under Nebraska law this new organization which was to be called the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI). The records of the American Bankruptcy Institute document two main areas of the organization: the history and operating activities of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the organization's professional activities, publications, and research on bankruptcy related issues. The materials date from 1982-2013, with the bulk from 1985-1996. Judge Judith K. Fitzgerald has more than 25 years of experience as a Bankruptcy Judge, having presided over matters in the Western District of Pennsylvania (where she was chief judge for five years) as well as in the District of Delaware, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This collection is comprised of records relating to the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges.
