Abstract:: This collection contains materials related to the study and practice of phrenology, specifically as espoused by American phrenologists Orson Squire Fowler, Lorenzo Niles Fowler, Charlotte Fowler Wells, Lydia Folger Fowler, and Samuel Roberts Wells, who together make up the company Fowler and Wells. Fowler and Wells was the most prolific disseminator of phrenological materials throughout the nineteenth century. The materials in this collection range from extended, personal analyses of individuals, to advertisements and ephemera about phrenological publications, to original editions of the American Phrenological Journal.

Abstract:: Comprises material relating to the production of German-language plays in Philadelphia, predominantly in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Material includes printed and manuscript plays with annotations, which served as prompt books; manuscript scenarios; lists of props, as well as a few actual props; role books; librettos; musical scores; playbills; and selected issues of German-language theater newspapers published in Philadelphia. Also includes a catalog of the Theater-Leihbibliothek, handwritten by Theodor Bloch, owner of the lending library.

Octave Delepierre papers, 1835-1879 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Octave Delepierre (1802-1879), an author, bibliophile, antiquary and diplomat, was named the archivist of "Occidental Flanders" after graduating from law school, a position he held until he was appointed Belgian secretary of legation and Belgian consul in London. He served in those posts until 1877. The collection consists of correspondence, notes, writings (both published and manuscript), translations, and sketches by Delepierre and reflects his research and interests in history, ancient literature, national bibliography, and archaeology.
