Herman Lukoff Papers, 1940-1980 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Herman Lukoff, a pioneer in the computer industry, attended the Moore School of Electrical Engineering of the University of Pennsylvania from 1940 to 1943. Lukoff's career blossomed after 1950 when the Eckert-Mauchly Corporation was bought out by Remington Rand (later known as Sperry Rand) Corporation. The papers of Herman Lukoff mainly document his professional career at the Sperry Rand Corporation, although there is a small series of personal papers, primarily containing student notes while attending the University of Pennsylvania.

Abstract:: Michael Zuckerman graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with an A.B. in 1961 and obtained his Ph.D. in the History of American Civilization from Harvard University in 1967. He started teaching history at Penn in 1965 and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1967, Associate Professor in 1970, and Professor in 1984. His research interests have focused on American social history and colonial American history. The collection documents the career and achievement of Michael Zuckerman as a history professor and researcher.

Harry Mathias Martin Papers, 1944-1972 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Harry M. Martin attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, and received his doctorate in 1916. Martin served on the faculty of the University from 1931 to 1934 as Assistant Professor of Veterinary Pathology and Parasitology, from 1934 to 1943 as Associate Professor, and from 1943 to 1962 as Professor. The papers of Harry Martin reflect the range of his work at the University as well as his research efforts in animal parasitology.

Abstract:: The Center for the Study of Black Literature and Culture was founded in 1987 with these major objectives: to "generate and promote scholarship about the Black Diaspora", "to provide space and facilities for writers, artists, and academics" to promote interdisciplinary research in black literature and culture, "to bring results of academic research to public attention," and "to assist the inner City schools with specialists' expertise." This collection documents the operations of the Center for the Study of Black Literature and Culture since its founding in 1987.

Alfred Bendiner Papers, 1921-1970 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Alfred Bendiner received both a bachelor of architecture degree in 1922 and a master's degree in 1927 from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1937, when he accompanied the University Museum's archeological expedition to Tepe Gawra and Khafaji, Iraq, Bendiner's task was to draw architectural blueprints of these sites. He was also architect to the university's Tikal-Tikal archeological expedition to Guatamala in 1960. These papers include Alfred Bendiner's published articles and his drawings (originals and reproductions) done for publications by his class and by the University of Pennsylvania.
