Abstract:
This collection is principally composed of correspondence from U.S. Army Veterinary Corps Lieutenant Colonel Herbert S. Williams (1881-1950) to his family members, and in particular his sister Emily, nicknamed "Bon." The bulk of these letters were written during Williams's service in the U.S. Army Expeditionary Forces over the following periods: 1908 to 1909, in which Williams was stationed in Cuba and Fort Myer, Texas; 1916-1917, in which he was deployed to Mexico as part of the Mexican Expedition; and 1917 to 1919, in which he was deployed to Europe during World War I with the 12th Field Artillery Regiment. The collection also contains some limited correspondence from Williams to family members after his retirement and up to his death in 1950, as well as some official communications relating to his military service. This collection may best serve researchers interested in family correspondence during military deployment.

Berchtesgaden military intelligence records, 1945-1950 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The core of the collection comprises records of the Counter-Intelligence Corps (CIC) detachment of the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army, which was stationed in Berchtesgaden, Germany, at the close of the Second World War. George R. Allen, who collected the materials, was a member of that CIC detachment. Included are typed transcripts of interviews with, statements from, or reports on family and staff of Adolf Hitler, including Fritz Goernnert (assistant to Hermann Göring), Franz Brandenburg and Willy Lau (Göring's guards), Christa Schroeder (Hitler's personal secretary), Paula Wolf (Hitler's sister), Angela Hammitzsch (Hitler's half-sister), Theodor Morell (Hitler's personal physician), Erich Kempka (Hitler's chauffeur), Günther Mannertz (member of the SS), Heinrich Doose (member of the Waffen-SS and driver), Percy Schramm (head compiler of the war journal of the German High Command Operational Staff), Erwin Nagel (German soldier in a convicts detachment), and...(see more)

Tepe Gawra, Iraq expedition records, 1932-1938 (bulk) 1931-1950 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Tepe Gawra is an ancient Mesopotamian settlement in northern Iraq, near the ancient site of Nineveh and fifteen miles northeast of the modern city of Mosul. It was excavated by archaeologists from the University of Pennsylvania, led by E.A. Speiser, who first discovered the site in 1927, and later, C. Bache. The excavations showed that the Tepe Gawra site was occupied from approximately 5000 B.C. to 1500 B.C. The textual records from Tepe Gawra consist of 11.85 linear feet of General Correspondence, Field Notes, Indexes and Catalogues, Field Registers, and Publications, plus Maps and Drawings. Where possible, a chronological order was imposed on the Near East records.

Abstract:
John Bach McMaster (1852-1932) was an American writer and professor best known for his landmark history of the United States, A History of the People of the United States, which appeared in eight volumes from 1883 to 1913. McMaster's historical technique was notable in its use of newspaper material and his insistence on providing social context from all classes, not simply the political leaders of the time. This collection contains correspondence, writings by McMaster, material used by McMaster in his research, and personal material, such as newspaper clippings of his life and work, testimonials by colleagues, and memorabilia.
