Sharpless family letterbook, 1883

Abstract:: The personal correspondence included in the Sharpless family letterbook acted as a circulating "family letter," and was added to by each family member with the goal of assembling the letters at the end of the year and binding them together for the use of future generations. Letters generally provide news of each letter writer, as well as comments on past letters. Letter writers include Susanna F. Sharpless, Edith Sharpless, Thomas Sharpless, Elizabeth S. Smedley, Ann Sharpless, William Sharpless, and Susanna Sharpless.

Julia Cope Collins signature album, 1879-1884 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The signature album of Julia Cope Collins includes signatures, which are occasionally accompanied by a short note, quote, or sketch by the signer. According to the inscription on the front cover, this "Floral Album" was given to Collins by her mother in August of 1879.

"The Boston Broad Brim", 1884

Abstract:: The manuscript of George A. Barton, entitled "The Boston Broad Brim," appears to be satirical in nature, and, according to the introduction supplied by the manuscript, "The Boston Broad Brim is published Semi-Occasionally for the benefit of the Boston Meeting. It is the official organ of the Whittier Association," and was previously called the "Highland Hall News, and was a weekly paper." This volume provides a brief satirical history of Quakers, particularly their move from Switzerland to the United States, the "Eighth Idyll of Theocrates," "The Miracle" translated from German, and a story called "The Hoag Surprise Party."
