Abstract:
Henry C. Gibson (1830-1891), one of the wealthiest men in Philadelphia in his time, indulged liberally in collecting art and philanthropic causes. His son, J. Howard Gibson, lived from about 1855 until about 1894. J. Howard's grandson, Henry C. Gibson, Jr. (born circa 1922), established a firm to explore commercial uses of atomic energy in Palm Beach, Florida. The Gibson family papers, 1860-1955, primarily concern John Howard Gibson and his father Henry Clay Gibson, with some material on other family members. It consists mostly of family scrapbooks and memorabilia.

Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts records, 1925-1974 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts was founded in 1966 as the social club of the Union Local No. 274 of the American Federation of Musicians. Local No. 274, the Black musicians union of Philadelphia, was in existence from 1935 to 1971. With members such as John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie, Local 274 was an important organization in the development of jazz in Philadelphia. The Clef Club served as a foundation for the city's jazz community, advancing projects to benefit jazz musicians. The Club continued to function as a social club until 1978, when it expanded its activities to include jazz performance, jazz instruction, and the preservation of Philadelphia's rich jazz history. The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts records, 1925-1974, include records of both the Black Musicians Union Local No. 274 and the Clef Club. Reeves Wetherill scrapbooks, circa 1800-1989 (bulk 1935-1985)

Abstract:
Reeves Wetherill (1912-1992) was a Philadelphia socialite who served as the Vice President for Public Relations at Wanamaker's department store from 1960-1987. He descended from Samuel Wetherill, a textile manufacturer involved in founding the Free Quakers during the American Revolution, and Christopher Wetherill, an early settler in Burlington County, New Jersey. The Reeves Wetherill scrapbooks, circa 1800-1989 (bulk 1935-1985), consist of about a dozen scrapbooks that document the activities of members of Philadelphia's upper class, including the lives of Reeves Wetherill and his wife, Sally Ann, as well as a small amount of 19th century documents relating to Reeves Wetherill's ancestors.

Harold E. Cox transportation photograph collection, 1915-1950 (bulk) 1901-1950 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Philadelphia Rapid Transit Company (PRT), founded in 1902, constructed subway and elevated train lines and managed public transportation in Philadelphia for nearly half of a century. In 1940, the Philadelphia Transportation Company (PTC) was established, absorbing PRT and taking over all of its functions. PTC was purchased by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) in 1968. The Harold E. Cox transportation photograph collection, 1901-1950 (bulk 1915-1950), consists of approximately 800 gelatin silver print photographs, about 50 film negatives, and a few PRT and PTC company newsletters, ephemera, and programs from employee events. Depicted in the photographs are Philadelphia street scenes, maintenance and repair work, vehicle interiors and exteriors, and employees from PRT and PTC.

Aachen Printing Company was a commercial printing service owned by William R. Turner and located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, active from about 1946 to 1986. The Aachen Printing Company sample books, circa 1945-1985, consist of 16 scrapbooks that seem to include a copy of every item printed by Aachen Printing Company such as wedding invitations, company letterhead and memos, and other printed materials. Many items in the sample books are for prominent client Columbia Records.

Chef Fritz Blank Victus Populi collection, 1874-2005 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Chef Fritz Blank (1942 August 25 – 2014 September 9) was a prominent chef, restaurateur, and gastronome during the beginnings of Philadelphia's second-wave restaurant renaissance in the 1980s. His Victus Populi collection comprises over 3,000 recipe booklets, pamphlets, and cookbooks but constitutes only a small subset of Chef Fritz Blank's enormous cookbook library that was set apart by its focus on the American consumer and home cook. Blank titled the collection Victus Populi (Latin for "Food of the People") because he saw these pamphlets as one of the best sources of historical information about purchasing, cooking, and consumption habits of the American public in the 20th century. Many of the items appear to be promotional items or product premiums, often produced using relatively inexpensive materials and, as evidenced by extensive wear-and-tear and the occasional spatter, heavily used in household kitchens.

Stephen Berg was a Philadelphia born poet, professor, and editor who made that city his home for the majority of his career. A prolific writer and publisher, he was awarded several prizes throughout his lifetime including a Guggenheim Fellowship, Rockefeller Fellowship, Pew Fellowship, PEN Translation Fellowship, and the Frank O'Hara Prize. This collection includes poetry manuscripts and published poetry collections by Berg, many of them in annotated typescript, proof, and published versions.
