Abstract:: Woodmere Art Museum, located in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was officially established in 1940 through the will of Philadelphia businessman, civic leader, and art collector, Charles Knox Smith (1845-1916) and is dedicated to Philadelphia-area artists. The building, grounds, and core of the museum's permanent collection were gifts of Smith, who purchased the Woodmere estate in 1898 and renovated it to better display his collection. As of 2016, Woodmere Art Museum boasts a number of indoor and outdoor spaces, in which it hosts various exhibitions, programs, art classes, lectures, performances, and other special events throughout the year. William H. Campbell papers, circa 1930s-2012

Abstract:: William H. Campbell (1915-2012) was an illustrator, painter, art director, and art teacher in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a co-founder of the Main Point, a coffeehouse and intimate performing venue for folk artists established in 1964 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. An active participant in the Philadelphia arts community, Campbell had several group and solo exhibitions, and received awards from Philadelphia and New York art organizations. The William H. Edwin S. Stuart papers, 1884-1937 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Edwin Sydney Stuart (1853-1937) was a Philadelphia businessman and politician during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In addition to owning and operating a successful bookstore, Stuart also served as mayor of Philadelphia from 1891 to 1995 and governor of Pennsylvania from 1907 to 1911. The Edwin S. Stuart papers, as received by Temple University, reflect a portion of the files from the Stuart/Emmons family and material stored at Leary & Co. prior to the closing of the firm in 1969. The records date from 1884 to 1937, and reflect both the archives of the Leary firm and the political and social activities of Governor Stuart. His papers document a variety of personal activities and social functions as well as his work with Girard College and the Union League. While the papers do document some of his political functions in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania, this collection does not contain his formal political office files.

Old York Road Historical Society deeds collection, circa 1680-1950

Abstract:: Montgomery County, situated in southeastern Pennsylvania and established in 1784 out of the western portion of Philadelphia County, has played an important role in U.S. history. Since its founding, it has experienced "booming industry and manufacturing, rich farm fields, advanced transportation, artistic endeavors and unique religious beliefs." The history of the area of eastern Montgomery County has been documented significantly through the collecting efforts of the Old York Road Historical Society. The Old York Road Historical Society deeds collection, circa 1680-1950, consists of about 600 deeds, indentures, and property records dating from the 17th century to the 20th century. Most are from the region of eastern Montgomery County.

Comfort-Dern family papers and memorabilia, 1848-1925 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Charles L. Comfort (1835-1913) was a Confederate Civil War veteran who settled in Philadelphia and opened a business in botanical preparations and flavoring extracts. His second wife was Ellen Lister Dern. The Comfort-Dern family papers, 1848-1925, are a miscellaneous accumulation of papers primarily relating to Charles L. Comfort and his father-in-law Conrad Dern. It includes receipted bills, family correspondence, photographs, business accounts, Badger/Comfort family genealogical notes, and various family documents and ephemera. There are also small amounts of records from two clubs in which family members were involved: the Utah Club and the Men's Chapter of the Guild of the Church of Our Savior (Jenkintown).

Richard Rothe photographs and diaries, 1895-1930 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Internationally-known horticulturalist Richard Herman Rothe was the developer of what he called the "American rock garden." The Richard Rothe photographs and diaries, 1895-1930, consist of 250 lantern slides and color prints of garden views of Pennsylvania estates in eastern Montgomery County, Philadelphia, and the western Main Line as well as family scenes and views on Mount Desert Island, Maine. The collection also contains copies and originals of some of Rothe's diaries, photocopies of articles he published, and research materials on him.

Danenhower family papers, 1866-1973 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Danenhower family at one time operated a mill on Pennypack Creek and were long-time residents of the Abington area in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Danenhower family papers, 1866-1973, consist primarily of Eva C. Danenhower Davis diaries, 1967-1973, that record her daily activities while living in Gulfport, Mississippi, and in Philadelphia. Other family records include two autograph albums and a scrapbook.

Abstract:: John Buckley and Company was established by John J. Buckley (1896-1974) in 1928 as construction contractors specializing in foundations. Buckley and Co., Inc. is still active as of 2014 as a major highway and heavy contractor business located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Buckley and Co., Inc. construction photographs, 1927-1971, consist primarily of images of construction sites, but also include film negatives, and small numbers of letters, bid forms, and other documents.

Stan Lee and Esther Broza papers, 1940-1970 (bulk) 1922-1990 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Stanley A. Broza (1897-1970), better known as Stan Lee Broza, was a pioneer in radio and television broadcasting and programming. He is best known for creating and hosting the popular radio show "The Children's Hour," which aired on WCAU-AM in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1927 to 1958. Several well-known celebrities worked on "The Children's Hour" before they became famous including Frankie Avalon, Rosemary Clooney, Eddie Fisher, and others. Broza's wife, Esther Malis Broza (1898-1990) worked as a producer, writer, and director on the show. The Stan Lee and Esther Broza papers, 1922-1990 (bulk 1940-1970), primarily consist of photographs, correspondence, scrapbooks, and newspaper clippings documenting the careers of Stan Lee and Esther Broza, particularly their work on "The Children's Hour" radio and television program. Other materials in the collection relate to the Brozas' children, Elliot Lawrence and Stanley Broza Jr., and various members of Esther's family.

Abstract:: Dr. Rafael A. Suarez and James T. Caulfield, known as "The Philamigos," traveled throughout South America in the 1950s-1980s, operated a learning center in Philadelphia, and were prominent members of the Philadelphia LGBT community. The James T. Caulfield and Rafael A. Suarez papers, 1918-1985, extensively document their works, including the Philamigos Institute of Learning, their travels abroad, and Caulfield's experience as a gay soldier during World War II. The collection contains correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, ephemera, over a dozen 16-mm films, and stamps/correspondence regarding philately.
