- The Lower Merion School District was the first in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania to apply for establishing free "common" public schools under legislation passed in Harrisburg in 1834. The Lower Merion School District was established in 1836. As of 2011, it still serves the needs of the students of Lower Merion Township as well as the Borough of Narberth, and includes nine schools. The Lower Merion Historical Society school ephemera collection, 1927-2011, is made up of various items produced by schools, students, and teachers. It includes a large number of school newspapers, yearbooks, photographs, and event programs.
