Abstract:: The Historical Society of Montgomery County club and society records collection, 1751-1991, consists of miscellaneous records from clubs, societies, associations, and social organizations in the vicinity of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Many different types of organizations are included in this collection, which is grouped into seven broad categories: Agricultural Associations, Charitable Groups, Civic Groups, Fraternal Societies, Horse Companies, Literary Societies, and Social Clubs. Minute books are the most common document type, but ledgers, membership records, correspondence, and many other types of records are also represented in the collection.

Abstract:: The land that is now the Morris Arboretum at the University of Pennsylvania, the official Arboretum of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, was previously the private estate of Quaker siblings John Thompson Morris (1847-1915) and Lydia Thompson Morris (1849-1932). The John and Lydia Morris estate papers, 1854-1932, consist of the siblings' papers primarily relating to the adjacent lands they donated to form the Arboretum--Compton and Bloomfield estates. The collection includes financial ledgers, receipts, correspondence, and other primary-source documents, as well as secondary-source copies of Morris family documents held elsewhere and articles on the Morris family.

Abstract:: The Farmers Creamery Association of Center Point in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania was founded in 1880. At that time, 84 farmers brought their milk daily to the creamery. The association dissolved in 1923, and the building was converted into apartment buildings the following year. The Farmers Creamery Association of Center Point records, 1880-1921, include minute books, check stubs, and stockholders lists.

Abstract:: The Farmers Union of Montgomery County, formed in Worcester, Pennsylvania in 1895, was organized to protect the welfare of local farmers as well as to advance the education and progress of the local agricultural community as a whole. The Farmers Union of Montgomery County records, 1895-1959, include administrative records of the Farmers Union. The bulk of the collection is financial records of the Farmers Hall Association, formed to erect the Union's meeting hall.

Abstract:: George Sheaff (1779-1851), a wine merchant in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, purchased the Highlands Mansion in 1813. Sheaff was interested in "progressive" agriculture and scientific farming, and the grounds blossomed under his hand. His family was the first to reside at The Highlands year-round, and members of the Sheaff family occupied the mansion for 102 years. The Sheaff family papers, 1797-1904, consist primarily of daily journals of the Sheaff family, which were kept from 1838 to 1904. The collection also contains property plans, wills and estate records, and newspaper advertisements for the property.
