Abstract:
John Roberts was among the first settlers of Merion, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania in 1683. His descendants included civic leaders, a physician, a president of the Pennsylvania Railroad and a state senator; the businesses his family started included a model dairy farm and the Pencoyd Iron Works. The Roberts Family Collection, 1677-1998, includes indentures and deeds, maps, tax receipts, wills, correspondence, photograph albums and a daguerreotype, genealogical research, and diaries. The highlight of this collection is a series of private letter books of George Brooke Roberts (president of the Pennsylvania Railroad), 1833-1897.

The collection focuses on Lower Merion, the Main Line, and the City of Philadelphia. The township of Lower Merion in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania was first settled by Welsh Quakers in 1682. It is part of the "Main Line," a collection of affluent Philadelphia suburbs located alongside the Pennsylvania Railroad line that was built between Philadelphia and Harrisburg in the mid-19th century.

Abstract:
The Lower Merion Academy in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, was created at the bequest of Quaker Jacob Jones in 1812. The Academy was one of the first public schools in the United States and was one of the first in Lower Merion township to provide a free education. The Lower Merion Historical Society collection on the Lower Merion Academy, 1814-2010, includes administrative records for the building and of the Academy, and a small amount of financial records.

Radnor Historical Society subject files, circa 1860-2014

Abstract:
Radnor Township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania was founded in 1682, shortly after Welsh Quakers arrived on the lands previously home to the original inhabitants, the Lenni Lenape Indians. Development in the area increased when new transportation routes passed through the area, first the Lancaster Turnpike (the first toll road in America) in 1794, and then the Columbia (later Pennsylvania) Railroad in 1832. The township's population doubled between 1880 and 1890 with the birth of one of the country's first planned suburban developments, Wayne. Development and population boomed again in the wake of World War II and has continued to grow in the 21st century. Abstract:
W. Robert Swartz was a local historian and a photographer who owned a photography shop on Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore for most of the second half of the twentieth century. The W. Robert Swartz Photography Collection, 1890-1996, largely consists of photograph negatives taken by Swartz, but it also includes some images dating from the turn of the twentieth century collected by Howard G. Kurtz and H. Parker Rolfe. The photographs are centered in Lower Merion Township and surrounding regions, and depict local landmarks, sports teams, events, accidents and natural disasters, covered bridges, and the Swartz family.

It is part of the "Main Line," a collection of affluent Philadelphia suburbs located alongside the Pennsylvania Railroad line that was built between Philadelphia and Harrisburg in the mid-19th century. "The First 300" photograph collection, 1890-2000, is composed of photographs (mostly reproductions with some originals) that were used in the Lower Merion Historical Society's published book The First 300: The Amazing and Rich History of Lower Merion. There are also some photocopies of secondary source materials that were used in researching the book.
