Overview and metadata sections
W. Robert Swartz was a photographer who owned a photography shop on Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore for most of the second half of the twentieth century. He was a former president of the Lower Merion Historical Society.
This collection largely consists of photograph negatives taken by local historian and former president of the Lower Merion Historical Society Robert Swartz. The photographs are centered in Lower Merion Township and surrounding regions, and depict local landmarks, sports teams, events, accidents and natural disasters, and the Swartz family. In addition, the collection includes some photographs of bridges collected by Howard G. Kurtz and some early photographs of the Main Line collected by H. Parker Rolfe, dating from the turn of the twentieth century and including some glass plate negatives.
