Abstract:
Pressbooks are promotional material created by film producers to market films. These books usually contain a small synopsis of the plot, often in two or three languages, commonly English, Hindi, Urdu and sometimes a regional language like Gujarati, depending on the perceived audience for the movie. Since almost all of these movies were musicals, the lyrics to film-songs are a key feature of these booklets.This collection consists of multi-lingual cinema pressbooks that accompanied the release of films produced in India from 1929 to 2003. They are arranged in alphabetical order.

During the mid-to-late 1970's, South Asia, most especially India and its immediate neighbors, experienced a period of civil and political unrest. This collection consists of French press photos concerning events in South Asia from 1935-1994, with particular emphasis on the turbulent years of the mid-to-late 1970s, in which India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh experienced overlapping civil, political, and environmental crises.

Godha Ram Channon (1882-1954) was an Indian-American political activist who played a critical role in the Indian independence movement as a member of the Ghadar Party, an expatriate revolutionary organization based in San Francisco. This collection includes material collected and created by Godha Ram Channon, as well as a small amount produced and collected by his son, V.P.: correspondence; writing by Godha Ram Channon and others; personal and professional material; material related to events planned and attended by Channon; material in Urdu and Hindi; newspaper clippings; photographs; and a small amount of miscellaneous material.

Harold A. Budke World War II photograph album of India, 1945-1946 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Captain Harold A. Budke was a medic in the United States Army, posted in Calcutta from 1945 to 1946. The photographs in his album document his experiences from his trip to Calcutta, to his service with the United States Army Dispensary, to his day-to-day experiences in the city, and to his work preparing the U.S.S. Marine Panther to transport GI's and patients from India in early 1946.
