Abstract:: Henry Cope purchased 40 acres of land in East Germantown, Pennsylvania in 1852 where he built a home for his growing family. Over the next 70 years, his descendants build 24 houses representing a variety of architectural styles. A portion of this land, now known as the Awbury Arboretum, was left to the City Parks Association in 1916 to protect it from development. The Awbury Arboretum Association records, 1868-2011, includes administrative records, financial records, and research compiled by Awbury Arboretum staff. There are also a large number of transcribed oral histories included in this collection.

Abstract:: Douglas H. Kane (circa 1947-2002) was a nationally renowned environmental architect and scholar who focused on ecologically-based design. As director of the Awbury Arboretum from 1978-1983, Kane developed a master plan for the arboretum's future growth. The Douglas Kane collection, 1960-2002 [bulk 1978-1983], contains administrative and ephemeral records created by Douglas H. Kane during his time as director of the Awbury Arboretum.

Abstract:: The Germantown and Chestnut Hill Improvement Association was formed in 1906, and focused on issues affecting the 22nd Ward of Philadelphia--encompassing the neighborhoods of Germantown, Chestnut Hill, and Mount Airy. Its concerns included roads and sewers, zoning, and fire and police protection; it helped to bring new schools, elevated train crossings, and reliable trash pick-up to the area. Woman's Club of Germantown records, 1920s-1982

Abstract:: The Woman's Club of Germantown was organized in 1917 to foster women's participation in social, civic, educational and philanthropic life in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The club purchased the Johnson House, a historic site on the Underground Railroad, and occupied it until the club dissolved in 1982. The Woman's Club of Germantown records, 1920s-1982, contain financial and administrative records, letters, scrapbooks, membership materials, publications, ephemera, and other documents relating to the Woman's Club of Germantown.
