Abstract:: Makefield was one of the five original townships of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, established in 1692. It was divided into Lower Makefield and Upper Makefield in 1737. Largely agricultural for most of its history, Lower Makefield's population swelled with suburban development in the 20th century. The Lower Makefield Historical Society collection of oral histories, house histories, and scrapbooks, 1980-2009, includes audiocassette tapes, VHS tapes, narrative house histories, and photocopies of deeds, photographs, newspaper clippings, and other original items that document the local history of Lower Makefield Township.

Ned Harrington local research files and publications, circa 1980-2008

Abstract:: Originally part of Buckingham Township, the township of Solebury in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, was incorporated circa 1702. Industries, particularly farming, became prevalent in the area by the 19th century; the picturesque landscape also drew many prominent artists to the area. Edwin (Ned) Harrington (1920-2009), who was considered Solebury Township's unofficial historian, authored numerous publications and conducted a tremendous amount of research on various local history topics, particularly local families and historic properties. The Ned Harrington local research files and publications, circa 1980-2008, include Harrington's privately-published histories as well as his research files, which are organized into three series: family files; property files; and local history. There is also a small amount of materials that have been added over time by the Solebury Township Historical Society.

Abstract:: Still in existence as of 2013, the News Herald was originally a local publication based in Perkasie, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The paper now exists as part of the Montgomery Media conglomerate as the Perkasie News-Herald. The News Herald photographs and negatives, 1982-2001, consist of photographic prints and negatives taken by reporters and photographers working for the newspaper. The images document local people, structures, and events.

Abstract:: Settled by Quakers beginning in 1680, the small town of Langhorne in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, grew as an important transportation center between Trenton and Philadelphia due to its location at the intersection of major roads connecting the two cities. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the town, which served as a stop along the rail line, became a popular summer vacation destination for wealthy Philadelphians. The Historic Langhorne Association genealogy files, 1985-2012, consist primarily of secondary source materials, including family trees, photocopied primary-source documents, research notes, and a few photographs, relating to families based in the area of Langhorne, Pennsylvania.

The newspaper covers Yardley Borough, Lower Makefield Township, Morrisville Borough, and all of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The Yardley News photographs, 1985-circa 2003, consist of photograph files from the newspaper that are roughly sorted chronologically by newspaper issue; a small portion have been sorted alphabetically by subject. He has served as Bensalem Treasurer (formerly known as Tax Collector) continuously since 1985, and is still in office as of 2013. He is also very involved in the local Republican party, serving as Republican Committeeman for 20 years. The Ray Wall papers, 1986-2009, include Tax Collector Files relating to Wall's work as tax collector and treasurer and Political Papers relating to local elections and Wall's role in the Republican Party.
