Abstract:: Dr. Douglas Macfarlan (1887-1966) was a resident of Ardmore, Pennsylvania, and a physician. He was also an avid local historian who served as president of the Lower Merion Historical Society, and contributed articles and drawings to Main Line Times in addition to publishing several historical monographs. The Notes and Drawings by Dr. Douglas Macfarlan, 1937-1964, consist of research notes, newspaper clippings, copies of articles, and original and copied photographs for various historical monographs by Macfarlan.

Abstract:: The Lower Merion Historical Society map and atlas collection, 1753-1998, includes about 20 atlases and numerous framed and unframed loose maps. The collection focuses on Lower Merion, the Main Line, and the City of Philadelphia. The township of Lower Merion in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania was first settled by Welsh Quakers in 1682. It is part of the "Main Line," a collection of affluent Philadelphia suburbs located alongside the Pennsylvania Railroad line that was built between Philadelphia and Harrisburg in the mid-19th century.

Abstract:: The Lower Merion School District was the first in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania to apply for establishing free "common" public schools under legislation passed in Harrisburg in 1834. The Lower Merion School District was established in 1836. As of 2011, it still serves the needs of the students of Lower Merion Township as well as the Borough of Narberth, and includes nine schools. The Lower Merion Historical Society school ephemera collection, 1927-2011, is made up of various items produced by schools, students, and teachers. It includes a large number of school newspapers, yearbooks, photographs, and event programs.
