Abstract:: Eugene Ormandy (1899-1985) was a Hungarian-born violinist and conductor best known for his association with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Ormandy's characteristic conducting style resulted in the "Philadelphia Sound," which he brought around the world through recordings, international tours, and guest conducting engagements. This is a collection of transcripts of oral history interviews conducted with Eugene Ormandy and others connected to him or to the Philadelphia Orchestra about Ormandy and his influence on the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Rudolf Serkin and James Heineman correspondence, 1942-1991 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Rudolf Serkin (1903-1991) was a pianist who is widely regarded as one of the greatest Beethoven interpreters of the 20th century. He was the director of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia from 1968 to 1976 and founded the Marlboro School of Music in Vermont. James H. Heineman was the director of the the Heineman Foundation from the mid 1960s through the 1980s and was a donor to the Marlboro School of Music and Festival. This collection contains correspondence, ephemera, and newspaper clippings. The correspondence is between Rudolf "Rudi" Serkin, Irene Serkin and James "Jimmy" H. Heineman and dates from 1948 to 1991.

Abstract:: The James A. Michener Art Museum, located in Doylestown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, is an independent, non-profit cultural institution dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting the art and cultural heritage of the Bucks County region. Opened in 1988, the museum is named for Doylestown's most famous son, the Pulitzer-Prize winning writer James A. Michener. James A. Michener Art Museum Archives photograph and oral history collection on Bucks County (Pa.) artists, circa 1978-1990s, consists of photographs and oral history interviews with Bucks County artists conducted by Bucks County Community College students in 1978, recordings relating to the Bucks County Council for the Arts, and assorted interviews from various Bucks County media personalities that were broadcast on local radio and television stations.
