Hilda Worthington Smith was a noted activist for worker's rights and education. She was an instrumental figure in the Bryn Mawr community as the director of the Summer School for Women Workers in Industry. The Hilda Worthington Smith faculty papers, which contains materials from 1916-1960s, largely consists of Xeroxed biographical materials pertaining to Smith.

Abstract:
The Hetty Goldman Collection is a small collection of photographs, correspondence, and other documents relevant to Hetty Goldman—pioneering archaeologist, classicist, scholar—whose excavations in the first half of the twentieth expanded the knowledge of the ancient past in the Mediterranean region. The strength of the collection is in several unpublished photographs of Hetty Goldman from the early twentieth century, correspondence, and the typed text of a speech that she delivered at Bryn Mawr College in 1955.

Abstract:
The Ben Wolf collection contains materials collected by, researched, or produced by Ben Wolf throughout his life as a writer and artist. The collection includes Wolf's poetry, fiction, lectures, critical writing, and original artwork, as well as Sherlockiana material. Beyond work produced by Wolf, the collection also contains a wide variety of correspondence, as well as a large amount of collected brochures, newspaper clippings, and magazines. The collection is loosely dated from the 1950s until 1990s. It would be most useful for research into Ben Wolf's life and work, or for research into the Philadelphia art world during this period.

The collection primarily consists of correspondence and miscellaneous materials.

Helen Taft Manning and Frederick Manning Papers, 1862 to 1980 (bulk)

Abstract:
This collection contains the official documents and letters, as well as personal memorabilia, correspondence, and photo albums (bulk dates from 1907-1960s) of Helen Taft Manning and Frederick Manning. Helen Herron Taft Manning, daughter of President William Howard Taft and Helen Herron Taft, graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1915. She was named Dean of Bryn Mawr College in 1917, and became acting President in 1919. After obtaining a doctorate in history from Yale University, she returned to Byrn Mawr in 1925 as Dean and Professor of History. She married Frederick Johnson Manning in 1920, a former Yale graduate who then took up a position as a professor in the History Department at Swarthmore College in 1925. The materials in this collection shed light on the life and career of both Helen and Frederick Manning, by means of the extensive personal and professional documents they shared with each other as well as their various family members and colleagues. Zelma Corning Brandt papers, 1906-1989 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Zelma Corning Brandt (1891-1990) was a social crusader active throughout the twentieth century. Her chief interests included the independence and development of colonial countries, American Indian affairs, nuclear disarmament, women's issues, and geriatric concerns. The collection consists of correspondence, travel notes, diaries and writings, and publications and reports, especially from 1960-1989. Brandt's longevity and attention to detail provide a complete view of various world and domestic issues and events through this period. Zelma Brandt attended Bryn Mawr College from 1909 to 1911.

Chinese Scholarship Committee records, 1916-1988 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Chinese Scholarship Committee was established by Professor Lucy Martin Donnelly in 1916, to provide Chinese women an education who could not otherwise obtain one in China. It was also intended to "deepen the understanding between China and the United States by bringing to this country the type of students who would represent the highest Chinese traditions, and who would in turn interpret to China our western civilization" ("Bryn Mawr Chinese Scholarship Committee," pamphlet). The fund, as established, provided for one annual scholarship to a Chinese woman who wished to attend Bryn Mawr College. The Chinese Scholarship Committee records documents the efforts of Bryn Mawr College diverisify its student body and to introduce to its students a different culture. The collection houses scattered financial and administrative records, as well as a nice body of correspondence from and about the Chinese students who directly benfitted from the fund.
