William Woodman correspondence, 1861-1872 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection includes letters received by William Woodman, primarily from his cousins Mary Anna Stradling and Annie Michener. Mary Anna Stradling's letters recount the rise of spiritualism in her community, her views on and interests in literature, and her conception of God. In one letter she muses on the changes among Orthodox Friends, and that they are now little different from Hicksite. Her writings reflect the daily life of women in the 19th Century.

Nicholas Hallock papers, 1835-1884 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The collections contains a draft or copy of a letter dated 6 mo. 1846 from Nicholas Hallock to Elizabeth Paxson which explains his religious beliefs; an 1848 letter from Henry Titus and others, Jerusalem, Long Island, NY, expressing their thanks for Hallock's religious visit; a copy of a letter dated 1835 from George Hull to Hallock, dispirited by the divisions among Friends; a record of the births of the family of Edward Hallock, younger brother of Nicholas; and a copy of the minute adopted by the New York Yearly Meeting in which Marlborough Monthly Meeting was laid down. Also typed transcripts of these documents, typed extracts from an 1884 manuscript by Nathaniel Hallock, and biographical information supplied by the donor.

Somerville Literary Society Collection of Autographs of Famous Women, 1848-1907 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Contains a collection of autographs of prominent women including Dorothea Dix, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lillie Devereux Blake, and Emily Sartain. The items were given to the Somerville Literary Society, a Swarthmore College women's literary organization, by Charles F. Jenkins to form the nucleus of an autograph collection. Most include a short published biography and portrait with a brief note from the subject. Exceptions are two letters from Elizabeth Cady Stanton. In one, she defends Mrs. Horace Greeley as a supporter of suffrage.

Amos Bacon Papers, 1795-1902 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Correspondence includes letters written by Amos W. Bacon of Philadelphia to his children, to Samuel W. Bacon from his father and brother while he was at Westtown School, and a love letter from Thomas Bacon to his future wife, Elizabeth Hall. Also contains the probate copy of the will of Charles West, Elizabeth Hall's copy book, the journal of Jane Wilson Bacon, and genealogical material on the entire family.
