Mary Wickham Bond papers on the "real" James Bond, 1907-1997 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The lives of James and Mary Bond, a Philadelphia ornithologist and author, respectively, were altered the day that author Ian Fleming, a bird lover who was familiar with Bond’s book, “The Birds of the West Indies,” appropriated James Bond’s name for his fictional spy character. The resulting confusion prompted Mary Wickham Bond to write “How 007 Got His Name,” in 1966, in which she tells the story of the real James Bond. This collection consists of Mary Wickham Bond’s collection of information regarding her husband, her own works on the writing, publishing and promoting of her books about her husband, and David Contosta’s writings about her husband.

Abstract:: The Chestnut Hill Hospital School of Nursing Records consist of 20.45 linear feet of hospital records, school administration records, faculty and student files, yearbooks, photographs, and some artifacts. The records extend from the school's creation in 1908 until its closing in 1987. The collection comprehensively documents the growth of a suburban community hospital nurse training program.

John Naylor collection, circa 1995

Abstract:: John Samuel Naylor was the son of Jacob and Anna M. Naylor and was born in Philadelphia on June 4, 1851. He owned Peoples Iron Foundry in Philadelphia and had an interest in photography and architecture. The John Naylor collection, circa 1995, includes slide indexes, notes and photocopies of Naylor photographs, and label copy from the 1995 Chestnut Hill Historical Society exhibit on Naylor.

Morgan Hebard, Jr. Collection, late 19th century-1990

Abstract:: Morgan Hebard, Jr. (1921-2000) of Philadelphia was a naturalist and photographer who served as president of the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association. His parents were renowned entomologist Morgan Hebard (1887-1946) and Margaret Champlin Perry Claxton, granddaughter of the artist John La Farge (1835-1910). The Morgan Hebard, Jr. Collection, late 19th century-1990, mostly consists of genealogical materials on Hebard's family. It also contains some prints of works by La Farge.

Abstract:: The Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) is a 1,600 member, non-profit organization founded in 1924. Wissahickon Valley Park, designated a National Natural Landmark in 1964, is a spectacular 1,800-acre forested gorge that is part of Philadelphia's Fairmount Park system. The Disston Wissahickon Collection is two boxes containing early records of the Friends of the Wissahickon.

Abstract:: Jeannette Washburn Kelsey (Mrs. Albert W. Kelsey) of "Rauhala", Chestnut Hill, Pa., was the daughter of Governor C.C. Washburn of Wisconsin (d. 1882). The Kelsey family papers, circa 1843-1930, include personal and social correspondence, business receipts, clippings, scrapbooks, greeting cards, memoirs, notes, photographs, printed ephemera and more.
