Abstract:: The Biddle family has a long history on American land with Quaker ancestors emigrating in 1681 and settling in Philadelphia around 1725. This collection documents the family relationships, and to a lesser extent, the work and military service of six generations of one branch of that family, starting with Clement Biddle (1740-1814), and following the descendants of two of his sons: Thomas Alexander Biddle (1776-1857) and Clement Cornell Biddle (1784-1855). These papers tell the stories, to varying degrees, of more than 30 individual Biddle family members through correspondence, financial records, professional papers, diaries, scrapbooks, and photographs.

Abstract:: Laurence H. Eldredge earned his LL.B. degree of Law from the University of Pennsylvania in 1927. Eldredge started teaching law in Philadelphia in the late 1920s, first at Temple University and later at the University of Pennsylvania. From 1940 to 1968 he was a lecturer on medical jurisprudence at the Penn Medical School. He began his attorney practice in the 1930s and became a well-known lawyer in the Philadelphia area. In addition to his teaching and attorney services, Eldredge also distinguished himself through active participation in civic and cultural affairs. This collection documents the multifaceted career of Laurence H. Eldredge as an attorney, law faculty and civic leader.

Abstract:: William Draper Lewis graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a LL.B. and Ph.D. In 1896 Lewis appointed Professor of law and Dean of the Law School. This collection is particularly rich for documenting Lewis' early career. His association with the University of Pennsylvania is well represented.

Abstract:: This collection features a series of materials partially documenting the career of lawyer and legal scholar William E. Mikell. Most notably featured in this collection are various drafts of the criminal codes Mikell was heavily involved in planning and drafting during his career. Also included are notes and writings of Mikell's which touch upon the large number of criminal law and code topics he worked with throughout his life. Speeches given by and about Mikell are included in their original forms, as well as person memorabilia including Mikell's 1890 Master's degree from The Citadel. The collection is rounded out with a brief set of personal photographs.
