Abstract:: The area now known as Doylestown (Bucks County, Pennsylvania) was given to Edward Doyle as a land grant from William Penn in 1692. Doylestown became the county seat of Bucks County in 1812, and the area flourished when a railroad line was completed between Doylestown and Philadelphia in 1856. Doylestown's historic downtown began to deteriorate in the early 1960s, but the town was revitalized in part due to an architectural preservation movement. The Doylestown Historical Society local history collection, 1832-2009, consists of manuscripts, such as organizational records, ledgers, photographs, ephemera, genealogy records, maps, and blueprints, that document various Doylestown individuals, families, businesses, and organizations.

Abstract:: A prime example of a 19th-century farming community, Carversville in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, was one of the first districts to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Historic Fallsington, Inc. manuscript collection, 1729-1984 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Settled by English Quakers in the late 17th century, the village of Fallsington in Falls Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania became significant as a religious, social and commercial center for the surrounding community. It served as a popular stopover point for travelers due to its location along several major transportation systems. Fallsington became the first historic district in Bucks County (1955) and was subsequently placed on the National Register of Historic Places (1971). The Historic Fallsington, Inc. manuscript collection includes the papers of numerous Fallsington families and individuals, as well as other materials that document the history of the village. Items include personal papers, account books and other financial papers, diaries, photographs, deeds, maps, and genealogy research.

Pearl S. Buck letters to Anne K. Sun, 1942-1958 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Anne Koopman Sun (1889-1975) was an American woman who worked as a teacher in Shanghai and Chongqing, China from about the 1920s to the 1940s and was a longtime friend of Pearl S. Buck. Sun married a Chinese banker and had one son. She moved back to the United States with her son in 1946. The Pearl S. Buck letters to Anne K. Sun, 1942-1958, consist of thirteen letters from Pearl S. Buck to Anne K. Sun written between 1947 and 1956. Also available in the collection is a booklet written by Pearl S. Buck, a photograph signed from Buck to Sun, and a label inscribed to Sun from Buck.

John O. Barth Quakertown High School sports scrapbooks, 1920-1989 (inclusive)

Abstract:: John Oexle Barth, nicknamed "Moose," was a coach at Quakertown High School in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Known as the "founding father" of Quakertown High School sports, he was inducted into the Quakertown Teacher's Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Pennridge-Quakertown Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. The John O. Barth Quakertown High School sports scrapbooks, 1920-1989, consist of newspaper clippings with some photographs and documents relating to Quakertown High School's sports teams and Barth's leadership as a coach. The collection also features one record book of "The Athletic Committee of Quakertown High School" (established 1920).

Quakertown Historical Society photograph collection, circa 1865-1990

Abstract:: Quakertown, Pennsylvania, incorporated in 1855, is a town located in the northeast portion of Upper Bucks County. The town remained quite small until the mid-nineteenth century, when the construction of the North Pennsylvania Railroad helped turn it into a significant commercial center. The Quakertown Historical Society photograph collection, circa 1865-1990, consists primarily of framed photographs, including panoramas, that depict the people and places of Quakertown. There is a large proportion of group photographs, especially Quakertown High School class and sports team photographs.

Grand View Hospital Auxiliary collection, circa 1913-2013

Abstract:: Grand View Hospital in Sellersville was the first hospital in Bucks County, Pennsylvania upon its founding in 1913. Two years later it opened a Nurse's Training School, the only one in Bucks County. The hospital is still in operation as of 2014. The Grand View Hospital Auxiliary collection, circa 1913-2013, includes a large quantity of scrapbooks and publications and ephemera, as well as some photographs and a small amount of correspondence and other documents.

James and Lorah families papers, 1833-1954 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Oliver P. James (1815-1894) was a prominent doctor and community member in Doylestown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He, his wife Sarah (1824-1906), and their three children Oliver (1860-1890), Martha (1862-1918), and Sarah (1864-1954) lived at what is now known as the James-Lorah Memorial Home at 132 N. Main Street in Doylestown. In 1896, Dr. James' daughter, Martha, married George H. Lorah (1863-1945), a minister at the Doylestown Methodist Episcopal Church. Martha's sister, Sarah James was a charter member of the Village Improvement Association of Doylestown (VIA), and upon her passing in 1954, the family home and its contents and property, as well as a trust fund for maintenance were bequeathed to the VIA. The James and Lorah families papers, 1833-1954, consist of original manuscript documents from the James and Lorah families, primarily Dr. Oliver P. Abstract:: Yardley Borough in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, was settled in 1682 by Quaker minister William Yeardley who purchased a tract of land from William Penn. Following the completion of the Bristol-New Hope section of the Delaware Canal in 1831, new commerce and trade poured into the town, then called "Yardleyville." The town continued to grow following the completion of the New York branch of the railroad in 1876 that included a nearby station. Yardley was incorporated as a borough in 1895. The Yardley Historical Association local history collection, 1741-2013 (bulk 1883-2013), is organized into two series: I. Subject files and II. Manuscripts. Catherine R. Belville family papers, 1950-1980 (bulk) 1855-1981 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Catherine "Kitty" Reading Belville (1897-1995) was born in Yardley, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Belville was a 1919 graduate of Swarthmore College, and established the Belville Scholarship there in 1982 in honor of her parents. Having a strong interest in history, Belville was a member of the Colonial Yardley Association (predecessor of the Yardley Historical Association). The Catherine R. Belville family papers, 1885-1981 (bulk 1950-1980), mostly consist of the personal papers of Catherine R. Belville, including correspondence, diaries, ephemera, and photographs, as well as some papers relating to the Belville family. Many of the materials relate to Belville's time as a student at Swarthmore College and her continued association with the school. Also included are materials relating to the Colonial Yardley Association, genealogy research, and Yardley history research.
