Abstract:: This collection is comprised of the two volume manuscript by Peter P. and Elizabeth W. Jonitis, entitled "Memoirs of the Prison Society: Biographical Vignettes of the Managers of the Philadelphia Society for Assisting Distressed Prisoners and the Members of the Philadelphia Society for Alleviating the Miseries of Public Prisons, 1787-1830." The biographical sketches were compiled in order to determine how many of the 344 members of the organizations were Quakers, so as to study Quaker contributions to early prison reform in the United States.

David Cooper memoir, 1724-1795 (inclusive)

Abstract:: David Cooper wrote his memoir during his later years, when his health was failing, so that his children would be able to reference an account of his life after his death. A note on the inside cover reads: "A Gift of David Cooper to his daughter Martha Allinson." In the memoir, Cooper recounts his early life, his family history, his marriage, the birth of his children, his Quakerism, his struggles with his faith, his work as a representative in 1761, and his attendance at Quaker Meetings.

"Satan's Harbinger Encountered", Undated.

Abstract:: "Satan's Harbginer Encountered, His False News of a Trumpet Detected, His Crooked Ways in the Wildernesse, laid open to the view of the impartial & judicious, Being Some thing by way of answer to Daniel Leeds his book entitled News of a Trumpet Sounding in the Wildernesse etc. wherein is shown," as indicated by the title, was a response to Daniel Leed's publication, which criticized the Society of Friends and sought to correct the accusations made by Leeds. The original manuscript was written by Caleb Pusey (1650?-1727), and published in Philadelphia in 1700, though it is unknown who copied this volume. According to a book plate on the inside cover, this volume was originally owned by Asa Matlack, and was later loaned by him to the Library of Chester Monthly Meeting, in Moorestown, New Jersey.
