Abstract:: John Cobb Cooper, Jr., a prolific writer in international air and space law, was born on September 18, 1887 in Jacksonville, Florida. Cooper received his A.B. from Princeton University in 1909 and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1911. Cooper married Martha Helen Marvel in 1918 and the couple had three children. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1917-1921 and held the rank of lieutenant and eventually Lieutenant-Commander. After being relieved from active service with the U.S. Navy, Cooper's embarked on a career that eventually led him to publish and present numerous articles on international air and space law. Nearing the end of his life in 1966, Cooper specifically selected 54 of his published articles on air and space law in hopes to be included in the Anna and Jonas Berger Memorial Space Law Collection at Biddle Law Library. Abstract:: The University of Pennsylvania Law School was founded in 1850 as the law department of the University of Pennsylvania. In fulfilling its core mission of providing legal education and scholarship, the school has hosted lecture series, symposiums, and other educational programs, and its students, faculty, and alumni have taken part in the activities of various academic legal societies. The school has undergone several renovations and construction projects over the years. In addition, the school has engaged in institutional development activities, including alumni relations and other promotional programs. Members of the school community have also taken part in a variety of extra-curricular activities and law school related social events. He finished out his career at the University as professor and chairman of the department until his death in 1956. The collection reflects Edwin E. Abstract:: Harry Dixon Jr. (1944-2006), a lawyer from Nebraska, wanted to form an organization with the dual purpose of providing Congress with unbiased views on legislation and creating an institution that could keep the bankruptcy community aware of legislative activities affecting them. In February 1982, Dixon incorporated under Nebraska law this new organization which was to be called the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI). The records of the American Bankruptcy Institute document two main areas of the organization: the history and operating activities of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the organization's professional activities, publications, and research on bankruptcy related issues. The materials date from 1982-2013, with the bulk from 1985-1996.
