Japanese photograph album relating to the late Taisho/early Showa era, 1919-1941 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This album documents the life of a Japanese family from the middle of the Taisho era (circa 1919) to the early-to-middle Showa era (circa 1941), during which Japan emerged as a militaristic imperial power in Southeast Asia. Though there is little direct biographical information, it appears that the family was upper class, and the patriarch was a high-placed figure in the Ishakawa Civil Engineers. Many of the photographs appear to come from soldiers stationed abroad—judging by their winter gear and the time period, probably Manchuria. The photographs are a mix of portraits, informal small group shots, and large-scale organizational photographs documenting school classes, military units, civilian leagues and professional associations.

Abstract:: The photograph album of a Mexican-American Colorado family consists of over 300 images documenting the members of an extended family living in the American West over a fifty-year period, 1921-1963. Identified locations taken from captions include: Eaton, Loveland, Milliken, Denver, and Chihuahua, Mexico. Majority of the photographs are either portraits or groups shots of the family with subjects ranging from infants and toddlers to elders.

India photograph album, 1860-1900 (inclusive)

Extent:: 0.33 linear feet (1 volume)
Abstract:: This bound album contains 69 black and white photographs of various scenes in India from the later half of the 19th century. It is unknown who compiled this album, but the album was probably created by a British person traveling through India. The bulk of the images are of historic structures, such as tombs, mosques, temples, palaces, forts and ruins, in the vicinity of Agra, Calcutta, Delhi, Lucknow, and Uttar Pradesh. None of the images have any descriptive text. Some of the photographs have been identified as the works of Samuel Bourse (1834-1912) or John P. Nichols (circa 1830-1905). The first page contains a print of the arms of the colleges, halls, etc. of Oxford produced by Thomas Shrimpton & Son.

Chalil Raad photograph album of the Augusta Victoria Complex dedication ceremony, 1910

Abstract:: Arab photographer Chalil Raad, also known as Khalil Ra'd, photographed the dedication of the Augusta Victoria complex located on the northern side of Mount of Olives in East Jerusalem in 1910. This photograph album contains interior and exterior black and white photographs of the Augusta Victoria Church and Hopsice, dignitaries, including Prince Eitel Friedrich and Duchess Sofia Charlotte of Prussia, who attended the dedication ceremony.
