National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges Oral History Project, 2004-2008 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Oral History Project was begun by the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ) at its 2004 Annual Meeting. The purpose of the project was to record interviews in which past presidents of the NCBJ reminisced about the organization and the role they played in it. The project later expanded to encompass oral histories of prominent bankruptcy judges. The collection chiefly includes oral histories recorded with past presidents of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges. Accruals to this project include prominent members of the NCBJ who may or may not be former presidents.

Conrad B. Duberstein collection, 2005 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Conrad B. Duberstein (1915-2005) earned his undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College in 1938 and his J.D. from St. John's University Law School in 1942. From 1943 to 1945, Duberstein served in the United States Army. When he left the Army following the end of World War II, Duberstein joined the Brooklyn law firm of Schwartz, Rudin, and Duberstein (the latter partner named after his uncle). In 1971, he became a partner at Otterbourg, Steindler, Houston, and Rosen, where he remained until his retirement in 1981. In 1981, he was appointed to the Eastern District Bankruptcy Court of New York. He was appointed that court's Chief Judge in 1984, a position he held for the rest of his career. In 1991, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from St. John's University Law School. The collection, 2005, contains 5 DVDs of footage honoring the career of Duberstein.

Randall J. Newsome papers, 1969-2010 (inclusive) 1982-2000 (bulk)

Abstract:
Randall J. Newsome attended Boston University for his Bachelor of Arts in 1972 and the University of Cincinnati College of Law for his Juris Doctor in 1975. With 28 years of experience serving as a settlement and bankruptcy judge, Judge Newsome is best known for his intelligent and pragmatic approach to resolving complex matters and he is frequently sought out as a national speaker on topics related to bankruptcy. Judge Newsome devoted much of his career handling local and national bankruptcy issues. Not only was Judge Newsome vocal about bankruptcy reform for consumers, but he was also actively involved with the ongoing legislative battles over bankruptcy reform, particularly during the ever changing Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) in the late 1990s. American Law Institute oral history collection, 1989-1993 (inclusive)

Abstract:
In 1989, the American Law Institute began producing videotaped oral history interviews with individuals who were active in the Institute's affairs. The project is ongoing. The Oral Histories Record Group, 1989-1993, includes video oral history recordings with Herbert Wechsler (1989 April 13), Homer Kripke (1989 September 9), and A. James Casner (1990 May 16). Each oral history has a corresponding transcript. Also included is a typewritten transcript of an oral history with Paul Wolkin (1993 July 8 and 26).

Penn Law School Legal Oral History Project Files, 1999-2006 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Penn Law School Legal Oral History Project was a collaborative effort from 1999 through 2006 by a team of faculty, librarians, and students to record and preserve first-person narratives of graduates and members of the Penn Law Community as well as notable public interest lawyers. The project began as a seminar, the goal of which was to train students in the theory and practice of oral history. Each student then selected a distinguished graduate or member of the Penn Law community and conducted a one-to-two hour videotaped interview. Following the interview, the student transcribed the videotape and prepared a biographical article. The collection, dated 1999-2006, includes transcripts of interviews of distinguished Penn Law School alumni, associated members of the Penn Law community, and public interest lawyers. The Marlboro Music School and Festival Records spans Marlboro's history from 1950 through 2013 and showcases its influence on chamber music in America as it documents its growth from a small and informally organized summer school in the early 1950s to its current status as a prestigious institution that has shaped careers and inspired the formation of numerous renowned ensembles. The school's emphasis is on the intensive study of chamber music where young and senior professionals collaborate in a relaxed atmosphere that is removed from the demanding rehearsal and performance schedules that they face throughout the year. The collection comprises administrative documents, concert programs, printed promotional materials, articles and reviews, photographs, and audio-visual materials relating to the Marlboro School of Music and annual summer festival as well as the related Musicians from Marlboro touring series and the Marlboro Recording Society.

The American Musicological Society, founded in 1943 to promote the systematic study of music, actively documents its history, its members, and, more generally, the history of musicology in North America through its oral history project. This collection contains transcripts, written memoirs, documentation, audio, and video resulting from the oral history project which began in 1996 and continues to the present. Researchers must obtain permission from the American Musicological Society to research the contents of this collection (see Conditions Governing Access note).

Irene Eber gift of the Yedidya Geminder Memorial Collection of Sino-Judaica, circa 1940s-2018 (inclusive) 1970s-2010 (bulk)

Abstract:
Irene Eber (1929-2019) was a scholar and professor of Chinese intellectual history and the Jewish community in China. This collection, consisting almost entirely of photocopies of her research, is a resource for researchers interested in the Bible in China; Chinese and Yiddish literature and poetry; Jewish refugees in China, and specifically Shanghai; and the Jewish community in China before, during, and after World War II. In addition to Eber's research, there is a fairly robust grouping of her writings, although not all are complete. The collection, named by Eber in memory of her father, Yedidya Geminder who was murdered by the Nazis, contains no information about Geminder.

Randall J. Newsome Oral History collection, 1993-1998, 2004 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Randall J. Newsome (b. 1950) graduated from the University of Cincinnati Law School in 1975. In 1998, Newsome was appointed to the Northern District of California's bankruptcy court, where he became Chief Judge in 2004. Randall Newsome has served as a faculty member for the Federal Judicial Center since 1987. He joined the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges in 1983, serving as President from 1998-1999. He is a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. The collection (1993-2004) includes audio cassette tapes of interviews with important figures in bankruptcy law, conducted by Newsome.
