International Communication Association records, 1946-2016 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Originally established in 1950 as the National Society for the Study of Communication, the International Communication Association (ICA) has grown to be the largest worldwide academic organization devoted to the systematic study of communication. The collection is composed primarily of administrative records created and/or collected by various officers from 1946 to 2016, and serves to document the association's development over the years. Materials include correspondence, board meeting minutes and reports, bylaws and constitutions, conference proceedings, division records, financial records, membership records, and publication records.

National Bankruptcy Conference records, 1948-1996 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The National Bankruptcy Conference is a voluntary, non-profit, self-supporting organization of lawyers, law teachers, and bankruptcy judges who have achieved scholarly distinction in the field of bankruptcy law. Its purpose is to study the operation of bankruptcy and related laws and proposals for their reform. The Conference participated as a consultant to Congress in every substantial amendment of the Bankruptcy Act up to the 1970s. The collection includes minutes summaries of proceedings of National Bankruptcy Conference meetings from 1948 to 1996 and reports submitted by the Committee on Coordination of Uniform Commercial Code and Bankruptcy Act.

Abstract:: The Alvin Goldstein papers document the period during which Mr. Goldstein (1934-2014) attended the University of Minnesota and was involved in student Zionist organizations. The early 1950s were a critical time for Zionists, just years after the establishment of the State of Israel, and on the eve of the 1956 Suez crisis and Israel-Arab war. The collection consists of a diverse yet integrally related group of ephemeral materials. There are newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, reports, correspondence, and convention programs. Notably, there is detailed information about the founding and first two conventions of the Student Zionist Organization (SZO) and their related activities.

Abstract:: The Dr. Theo George Wilson collection of Medical Committee for Human Rights (MCHR) material measures 2.2 linear feet, dates from 1962-1973, and is composed of MCHR administrative papers, topics focused on by the organization, and writings about or by MCHR. MCHR was a non-profit organization that worked for those with substandard health care, opened free clinics in inner cities, pressured medical schools to enroll more Black students, and advocated for abortion rights and other health related political issues. Dr. Theo George Wilson was a doctor and professor who served as a National Executive Director for MCHR in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

This collection of minutes, reports, memorandum, correspondence and audiocassettes collected by associate professor Jacob B. Ukeles provides documentation of the Center's urban strategies project. Under the direction of Ukeles, the project sought to designate alternative strategies for urban problem areas.
