Abstract:
The American Society for Information Science (ASIS), was a “non-profit professional association organized for scientific, literary and educational purposes and dedicated to the creations, organization, dissemination and application of knowledge concerning information and its transfer,” (ASIS Constitution). ASIS also served as a community of users to provide help, advice and the development of new techniques to those involved in the information sciences field. This collection documents the Delaware Valley Chapter of the American Documentation Institute (ADI) and later, after a name change, of the American Society for Information Science (ASIS). The records are largely administrative, but do provide insight into some of the concerns and challenges those in the information science profession faced from 1964 to 1971.

George A. Hay collection of administrative files of the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania, 1925-1965 (bulk) 1890-1970 (inclusive)

Abstract:
From 1925 to 1970, the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania (WMC) underwent significant change, adapting to both survive and prosper in a transforming society. Administrative change was brought about and explored to spark institutional growth and/or to mollify financial stress. Among the more significant events in the College’s history was the 1930 move to new and larger facilities in East Falls, and an administrative reorganization in 1942. In the 1940s and 1960s, WMC also explored the financial and administrative benefits of merging with other institutions in the Philadelphia area; Kensington Women’s Hospital and the Woman’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Jefferson Medical College. Amidst all of the change, WMC continued to honor its traditions and celebrate milestones, especially its Centennial Anniversary in 1950. Records of the Committee on the Mütter Museum and the Museum Council of Philadelphia, 1923-2006; undated (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Committee on College Collections of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia was established in 1935. Over the years, the Committee on College Collections worked closely with the Committee on the Mutter Museum; by 1939, the same Fellows served on both committees. The Museum Council of Philadelphia is the oldest and one of the largest regional associations of museums in the United States. Gretchen Worden was an avid supporter of local, national, and international professional organizations. She spent her career at the Mütter Museum of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia and later joined the Museum Council of Philadelphia. The records in this collection document the everyday administrative activities, operations, and programs of various committees of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and the Museum Council of Philadelphia, and span the years of 1932 to 2006. Abstract:
The Records of the Committee on By-laws and Ordinances document the preparation of the Ordinances and By-laws of the College of Physicians issued in 1818, 1924, 1935, 1958, 1971, and 1980. Included also are correspondence, reports, and minutes from meetings, dateing from 1966 to 1967, and 1973 to 1978. In 1990, as a result of major changes in the administration of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, the Committee on By-Laws and Ordinances was eliminated from the list of Standing Committees of the College. The committee's responsibilities were undertaken by the Executive Committee and other ad hoc committees.

Records of the Hall and Grounds Committee, 1967-1977 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Hall Committee of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia was first appointed in 1863. It was charged with the maintenance and rental of the College building on 13th and Locust Streets and, later, on 19 South 22nd Street. The committee hired and supervised the College's Superintendent and was also responsible for the preservation of the building's furniture and, until the appointment of the Committee on College Collections, artwork. By 1913, these duties were performed by the Superintendent. By 1972, the oversight of the Superintendent had fallen under the jurisdiction of the Executive Director with whom the Hall Committee worked. In 1973, the name of the committee was changed to the "Hall and Grounds Committee." In 1990, the duties of this committee were assumed by the Committee on Administration. The Office of the Executive Director is the lead office in charge of administering the business of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. The Executive Director oversees the activities of the College of Physicians staff including staff of the Historical Medical Library, the Mütter Museum, the Francis Clark Wood Institute, and the Finance Department. The Executive Director also oversees the College functions of institutional advancement, communications, membership, and special events. As a result, the records in this collection document the everyday administrative activities and governance of the College, and span the years 1953 to 2003 (Bulk 1977 to 2003). Abstract:
The Schuylkill Navy of Philadelphia was founded in 1858. It is the oldest amateur athletic governing body in the United States. By charter, "[the Schuylkill Navy’s] object is to secure united action among the several Clubs and to promote amateurism on the Schuylkill River." The Schuylkill Navy records documents the history of this rowing organization from 1859 to 2009. An organization dedicated to hosting rowing events for its member clubs and visiting teams, the collection houses the administrative records of the Schuylkill Navy and its member clubs, including the original founding members as well as clubs that joined the organization later; and records related to the planning and promotion of regattas. Abstract:
Two Quaker Organizations concerned about urban housing, The American Friends Service Committee and the Friends Neighborhood Guild (FNG) formed the Friends "self-help" Corporation (now called the Friends Housing Cooperative, Inc.) in 1952. The collection, consisting of three linear feet, covers the time period from 1948 to 2009, with the bulk of the materials dating from 2001 to 2009. Materials include correspondence; administrative, legal and financial records; and information regarding membership, projects and publications.

Abstract:
The Health Political Advisory Center, a health advocacy and research organization, was based in New York City and active from 1968 until 1977. The policies advocated by Health/PAC were largely left-wing and socialist health care programs, with special attention given to national health insurance, patients’ rights, and health care for disadvantaged, minority, and/or immigrant populations. The main purpose of Health/PAC was to spread information and foster activism through publications, conferences, and other events. Health/PAC published a variety of pamphlets, newsletters, bibliographies, and two books: The American Health Empire (1971) and Prognosis Negative (1976). The organization's newsletter, The Bulletin, was published regularly from 1968 until the late 1990s. The Philadelphia Chapter of the Special Libraries Association was founded in 1919 as a local library organization, the Special Libraries Council of Philadelphia and Vicinity, to promote the collection, organization, and dissemination of information to executives, research directors, and employees of industrial firms. In 1933 the Council affiliated with the Special Libraries Association, an international professional association for librarians and information professionals working in non-traditional library settings. The collection consists of publications issued by the chapter as well as bylaws, minutes, reports, and other administrative records dating from its founding.
