Abstract:: James H. Causten, Jr. (1818-1856) was a Baltimore physician who traveled to France and England from May 1845 to March 1846. His diary describes his experiences on the voyage across the Atlantic and his visits to France and England, where he explored museums, churches, and the architecture of the cities; as well as observing operations in various hospitals.
