John Letchworth Kite (1798-1878) was born in 1798, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Benjamin Kite and Rebecca Walton. He married Mary Lord in 1818, and the couple had nine children: Alban Kite, Ann Kite, Lydia Kite, Sarah Kite, John Kite, Benjamin Kite, James Kite, and Rebecca Cade Kite. Kite was a Quaker and a member of the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting. Kite died on November 13, 1878.
This collection is composed of the original, handwritten, single volume journal of John Letchworth Kite. Journal entries describe Quaker Meetings in detail, including the names of each person who spoke at meeting, what their message was, and how Kite felt about each particular message. In addition to detailed descriptions of Meetings, Kite's entries also include his own personal spiritual and religious reflections.
