Abstract:
Marian Williams Perrin Burton (1869-1959) was a graduate of Wellesley College and a prominent anti-suffragist from New York State. This collection contains three journals, with each volume covering one year and each page printed to hold two dated entries from 1886, 1887, and 1889. These diaries primarily concern her preparation for and time at Wellesley College but also include daily events, literary quotes, and details of illnesses.

Corneille McCarn Rucker papers, 1893-1987 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Corneille McCarn Rucker, an aspiring poet, was raised in Nashville, Tennessee and Hawaii before attending Vanderbilt University. She was the first woman to publish in The Fugitive, an influential poetry journal. It appears that despite this success, Corneille, in general, had a difficult time publishing many of her poems. This collection documents the lively social life and literary aspirations of a well-educated young woman in the early 20th century. Corneille McCarn Rucker memorialized her life in an extremely narrative and vivid fashion through letters, diaries, writings, and scrapbooks.

Eugene Labiche travel diaries, "Voyage en Italie", 1834 january 26-august 15 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Eugène Labiche (1815-1888) was a French comic playwright known for popular and amusing comedies who traveled to Italy in 1834 at the age of 18. He recorded the daily experiences of his journey through the south of France, Italy, and Switzerland in 44 rough notebooks and 2 fair copy notebooks. His friend, Gaspard-Félix Tournachon (1820-1910), more commonly (and much more famously) known as Nadar, helped Labiche make a fair copy of a portion of his travel diary from his notes and provided a few illustrations in the 2 volumes.

Extracts of current events, 1789-1810, 1829-1831 (inclusive)

Abstract:
This collection contains four journals of an unknown Londoner cataloguing current events from 1789 to 1810 and from 1829 to 1831. The books present short news extracts in chronological order with a date assigned to each entry. Some of the most recurrent themes are aspects of everyday life but the diaries also include political and military news, court verdicts, and information about theaters in London among many other things. This collection is characteristic of a trend towards journal-keeping that grew in England throughout the 18th century. However, these diaries are entirely impersonal and include no information about the author's own life or opinions.
